Change to https and loss of traffic !

Hello All,

I switch my website to ssl and changed my server around 22/9 some page went down to actually from almost 400 to less then 100.

May i know what you recommend me to do ?

shall i switch back to http ?

this only seems to be linked with switch to ssl, as i dont see how a server change could influence the serp this way.

the website is in germany and site is hosted on german ip.

Check to see if both non-www and www redirect to https, if they do, then it's just the change that is affecting your SERP results. Google added SSL as a positive ranking signal, so you should just wait for it to get back to where it was, and it will probably eventually rank higher.
 
Unless you got some low quality SSL thats getting flagged as untrusted on firefox and chrome hence making your customers run away ?
 
A few people have said they experienced a similar thing when switching from http to https, but they recovered after a short time.
 
Google webmaster tools sees http and https as two different sites. This may cause several issues, including duplicate content penalty.

Yes, WMT makes a difference here but I'm not sure if the things shown in WMT and the algo are really equivalent. Anyway, if you have a 301 redirect from all http to https it shouldn't harm you.
 
Funny that HTTPS is considered a ranking factor.
 
This is a known issue right now being reported by many webmasters. Even a permanent 301 redirect does experience some decay of authority being passed through so it's best just to stay the course. Google has allowed a grace period for problems with 404 pages, etc. while webmasters make the transition. In the end, you should receive the small boost of a ranking signal it provides as well as the inadvertent effects (higher trust, less bounce, etc) despite the loss of traffic experienced so far. Barry Schwartz on Friday said that, 30% of the first page serps are now containing HTTPS URLS.

they've done this to encourage switching to ssl and they've mentioned that it's a very `light` factor ( not very important -- it might even be a lie just to make people switch to ssl )

@op: i've noticed the same thing on multiple ocasions but every time the site recovers in a few weeks usually
 
Remove the certificate and change to http.

What is your SSL certificate provider?
