Chambers of Commerce?

Hey guys

This is mainly for the Americans on the forum

I was wondering if any of you have experience with joining your local chamber of commerce? I am having a hard time trying to decide whether the membership fees these chambers ask for are worth it. I think I would find it difficult to connect with these middle aged / old timers with suits and ties eating foie gras and caviar.

Anyone have experience?

May I ask what you would use the chamber of commerce membership for? I'm curious

Not worth it, I spent nearly 3 grand on them and it would have been far better spent somewhere else. Some of them are ranked toxic on SEMRush and I didn't think to check before I bought them.

I would like to make some real life friends and gain some references. Right now I am just a guy behind a computer trying to game a bipolar AI and I think there is more I have to do.

How is that different from just getting out and networking and/or just going out and talking to people? Is that what can be achieved joining the chamber of commerce?
