CentOS is gone?

I don't understand what Ubuntu has to do with any of this. You can continue using CentOS 7 for a few years. Shit, I have a few boxes on CentOS 6. You upgrade when it's necessary for your dependencies - til then get back to work.
 
As I've heard the original developer is back on developing it as Rocky Linux. Maybe they might offer some easy transition mechanisms in future, but there's still lot of time for it to be obsolete.
 
There will be CentOS Stream afaik. But I would also switch ubuntu. I like that more.
 
I already migrated to Ubuntu and do you know what? It's better. I don't know or care about the interface, but it practically is fully supported, there are a lot of help aimed at Ubuntu, so I can't complain.

Not as easy to migrate for everyone, it's situational.
I wouldn't suggest migration if you don't need it, yet.
 
yea I would just switch to debian or ubuntu. Good to learn both.

Man that is a blast from the past that was my first non redhat based distro. I put into production. At the time would take 8hrs to build from scratch they didn't have the pre-built binaries yet. So we setup distcc and cut it down to about 3 hrs!
But you learned how stuff worked doing that!

Haha, yeah, that's it. It's really pain if you doing it on the first time on production lol, but you right that you will get a lot of experience with it. It's like getting rid of source code building virginity
