What you may wanna do in the future to avoid this is register your domain with an offshore company. I use internet.bs which is based in the bahamas. They are actually cheaper than any other domain registrar and they also give you free whois protection.
Then host it with an anonymous offshore hosting account (I use ExtraWinner's hosting who is a member here on BHW). If you have anonymous offshore hosting, any complaints they get will be sent to you and you can choose what to do with them, but the hosting provider won't do anything about it or turn you in or anything. You don't even have to give them your real info when signing up.
By doing this it would be hard as hell and extremely expensive for a company to try and track you down. Probably not worth their time or money at all. The domain and the site itself are both hosted offshore and they don't even have your real name and address.
For now though, since the domain is pretty new it sounds like and you weren't making much from it, it doesn't really matter what you do with it. You can turn it over, but I would at least ask for them to pay the registration fee since you paid for 5 years already.
