Caution with shorts

Do not publish shorts (short videos) with existing channel

Shorts will affect the average watch time and recommendation algorithm of channel which is still yt considering as most important factors

we thought yt is going to change this since yt come up with <1 min videos but yt still not changed anything

It ruined many established youtube channels video views for the past 3 months, have seen channels getting 100k -500k views per video dropped to
3k - 70k views per video on longer video

why?

Shorts video confusing the recommendation algorithm, it just looping suggested video only with similar shorts videos, so longer videos not getting suggested or discovered on yt.

Is this based on what you're seeing with one channel? Plenty of big established channels are publishing shorts on the same channel consistently.

YT knows easily if someone's watched the video on a YouTube shelf vs a normal video. Would be an easy distinction for them to make in terms of retention.

Have seen many channels struggling, have personal ruined channel and recovering

Yes that what the issue is yt considering the channel average watch time by taking shorts video too

consider this a channel with
100k views on 30 sec shorts plus 100k 3 mins video = total average duration this is the problem

Could you show some examples of these many channels? It doesn't match what I've seen so far.

I understand your logic but it's obvious to YouTube that one is getting views from the short shelf and the other is a normal view so it wouldn't necessarily hurt a channel.

Come up with the channels publishing shorts and long videos you have seen bro it would be nice to explain

Agree with that, also personal experience. DON'T PUBLISH SHORTS! That's why most of them are doing separate channels.

But i want to ask you, how are you recovering? Are you unlisting the already published shorts or something else?

Haven't posted them on any of my channels yet. I might try on a less important one and see what happens.

Tested on 3 channels(1,2,3) in 1st deleted all short videos in one day and rested for a month, 2nd deleted short videos and dumped lot of new videos, 3rd all short videos in private and new videos weekly

I'm not sure my self. Theres this lawyer called LegalEagle that seems to do fairly well. He would upload one video every week. Now he uses the days where he doesn't upload to upload Youtube Shorts content.
And they seem to do fairly well. Sure the shorts videos don't pull as many views as the normal videos do but it seems like hes gaining new viewers from Youtube shorts. If it was affecting his channel, surely he wouldn't continue uploading shorts videos for two months?

However I've also noticed channels who just switched to only uploading shorts content completely take off. The downside is you'll barely make any money. At this point this is an investment of your time to grow on Youtube shorts and wait for monetization at the end of the year.

But yes if you want to be on the safe side then running a Youtube shorts channel is probably better. But then again, you kind of want to use Youtube shorts to gain new viewers.
So its up to you to decide whether the risk is worth the reward.

2nd one is better now

Hi, Still uploading shorts with long videos can hurt channel growth?, because some youtuber saying that we should upload both to grow the channel is it true?
