I'm working on my first site and I had a look through the first few pages on google just incase it showed up already.

A page on my site under 'categories' on wordpress with just a link to the home page and a little bit of text is ranking on page 4 (no title, no desc). But my actual homepage with content on & SEO based around the keyword is nowhere in sight. Anyone got a clue why?

Aye, Yoast SEO plugin says it's all good. Did much more than the category page too, which is strange. Maybe just because it's a new site it takes a while for google to sort it all out properly? It's on page 1 on Bing though.

If it's a new site then you should gibe it a bit of time before all the pages get indexed by the search engines. The page which shows for any particular query depends on the on-page aspects.
