This phenomenon appeared in the Google algorithm in 2016, as well as other improvements to the old pagerank formula. Its essence is that the donor page, giving the pagerank by the link to the acceptor page, receives some part of the pagerank back from Google.
The amount of cashback assigned depends on the amount of benefit that the user receives from this particular click on the link.
In some rare cases, the estimated amount of this benefit turns out to be so large that the cashback becomes larger than the pagerank that clicked the link.
At the same time, it should be understood that the pagerank has been a query-dependent parameter since 2016, and not common to all queries. So the cashback can be returned with the intent not of the link text, but with another intent and another request associated with it.
The introduction of these changes to the Google algorithm in 2016 made it impossible to use the old pagerank formula and, as a result, disable updating the toolbar value.

However, the seo industry and numerous software have failed to adapt to the change in the pagerank formula. Therefore, seo optimizers decided to recreate it on their own according to the same principles. This is how the DA parameter appeared, i.e. in fact it is a complete analogue of the pagerank according to the old formula. This calculation is based on the ratio of incoming links to outgoing links. And everything for optimizers remains the same. The squad did not notice the loss of a fighter.
Since Google already ranked the reference weight differently, and optimizers continued to use non-current estimates, the effectiveness of language building gradually decreased. At the same time, the optimizers made their incorrect conclusion from this that the role of the reference factor has decreased. It never occurred to them that they were just making incorrect estimates of the weight of links.
