So, yesterday I am just playing with these two platform, and figure that it may be interesting to share this one.

I am trying to rank for, let' say : "technique XYZ"

    1. Both blogs are using "technique XYZ", so I got techniquexyz.wordpress.com and techniquexyz.blogspot.com.
    2. Both are using non-standard templates
    3. Both have unique content.
    4. I don't use any plugins or special additions for these two blogs.
    5. I use GSA SER to create direct linking to each site for 25 links/day. Same settings for both sites, and using GSA Indexer for fast indexing.

Result, and I will update if necessary :
    Day 1 :
    Blogspot : N/A
    Wordpress : N/A

    Day 4 :
    Blogspot : N/A
Wordpress : 8 (but Google, instead of ranking techniquexyz.wordpress.com, is ranking techniquexyz.wordpress.com/about)

    Day 9 :
    Blogspot : 16
Wordpress : 8 (still, Google is ranking the About page, instead of the main page)

Wordpress rank faster, but Google somehow is not ranking the correct page. There are no mention about technique xyz in its About page.

    Any other thoughts guys?

I often see wordpress.com sites on serp, I can see some blogspots.

There are also some blogspots that rank well with their custom domain.

For Blogspot, switch to html. Somewhere near top of page between the <head></head> tags be certain are present, or add:

    Code:
    <title>Title of site</title>
    <meta name="description" content="Awesome Description Here"> // should not be more than 255 characters
    <meta name="keywords" content="KW1,KW2,KW3,...KWn"> // should not be more than 20 KW's

    Then ping.

I think wordpress has a built in pinger that auto-pings new content. Not sure about blogspot. This may be the reason for better indexing with wordpress?

I see lot of WP blogs as well, but i rarely see blogspots nowadays. There was a time few years back when Blogspots were dominating.

Why is your study only between those two? I use this sites mainly for web 2.0 backlinks as well a list from many other. It would be good if this study was for such sites with PR8>= :)

Thanks for the suggestion, man. But for this study, I intend to use the skeleton function of both platform, but surely I will remember your advice next time I use a Blogspot!

Yes, but what intrigues me is why Wordpress is ranked faster, but Google ranks the wrong page?

    Thanks for the encouragement, friend!

It may be. But still, it's the wrong page. The About section of my page has nothing to do with technique XYZ.

Yes, I think in a few days I will create a new study, with more platforms, and maybe with more keywords.
I am also thinking about a study about which have better ranking, site that has lots of copy-pasted content, or site with very few unique content.

It used to be the other way around some time back. Once WP gets slammed like Blogger used to, things will turn around again.

While Google, Bing, etc. will always take your keywords from the relevancy of the page, the keywords meta tag guide them.

To put this another way, if you repeat a word between 3.5 and 7 percent of the content (ten if you really want to push it), the SE's will pick that word or phase as the key phrase and rank for that. While the meta tags are somewhat in disfavor by G because of abuse, they still act as a guide that informs the SE's what the author thinks is relevant. The SE's also tend to look at different platforms differently and will rank them according to how they perceive them.

One way of mitigating this is to sign up for an account at googleping.com and use their ping service. The ping service at googleping.com allows you to enter KW's.

Well, as long as I earn better using Wordpress as a platform, variety of modifications you can implement, i'm in a favor with It. Blogspot had it's days, and still is alive and kicking platform, but they need to evolve a bit, well, at least in my opinion.

By using this code, all of your pages will have the same meta title, description, and keywords.

    Hi GreyKnight

You say you are using non standard templates for both wordpress and blogspot. To make the comparison fair, you could check out the meta tags generated by both templates to ensure they are equal, or at least comparable.
There are various SEO hacks for blogspot, typically to modify the default title, description and keyword tags, using h1,h2 tags etc.
So the idea is the identical content should produce (almost) identical html.

I always use wordpress for stuff like this. I am doing brand reputation management at the moment for a client with a lot of negative links about their company. I started a blog - clientname.wordpress.com, stuck up a few articles, and within two days it was on the first page. Competition isn't crazy, but still fast and easy win...
