[Case Study] The 1 Million $ Pixel Page - Script - Modern Techniques

Not sure if all of you remember or know about this, but I have a strong feeling that you do. Long story short: Back in 2005, a 21 years old college student made a site selling pixels space for $1 each, and he had like 1 million pixels in there. What happened? Read the Wikipedia link below)

The Million Dollar Homepage (please read here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Million_Dollar_Homepage) and see it here http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com/ was/is one of the most interesting and succesful ideas some college student made (in the year of 2005). If you will read the wikipedia link I mentioned (do it), you will notice that the site went viral on its own (or by the help of other established reputed sites), but would this still work now? I mean I think that at this point it could work as well, just that you will have to advertise it a lot or use your modern IM knowledge, push it and fake it 'till you make it.

To be honest, I think that loads of twists are key factors in here. It would be great idea to have an extra page in there writing out tons of how traffic will come to your pages among the years, how they will have they spot secured forever and so on. I already have a part of my plan set up with pretty good twists and promotion ideas (which are vast and you know them too), but I can't write all of them here due to obvious reasons. However I consider this somehow a fun sideproject, that if it would get succesful.. oh well..

Not to discourage you, but this has been tried a thousand times. You will have to come up with something REALLY unique to make your site stand out and be talked about.

I thought about this a while ago but couldn't think of a way to make it unique.

Well that's my point, and I do have one golden primary twist that wasn't used by nobody as far as I know ( and I did saw loads of similar sites ) and I know it will make the difference for sure.

Old idea, long dead, leave it buried. I followed alex tew, like he said in one interview "The idea only works once and relies on novelty"

Also it didnt go viral on its own on the web. His older brother actually got him on a couple of news programs or something to start as i remember.

It then went viral via the media and every news agencie began running it and doing interviews with him and it grew and went viral online.

make a mobile version and use instagram to drive traffic

Man! You dug the deepest corner of my mind. I can remember it. I wanted to do similar thing, but later totally forgot it! Go for it bud.

Please make sure to follow up with your results if/when you make it working. That would be cool to see results.

This is the exact thinking that get's you to reach your goals, people say that sky's the limit, but, why should there be any limits? That's a great idea Madruga, everyone here should know what can be done online, all the new marketing channels and tools that exist today and were not available back on 2005. Not even to mention there's much a bigger audience online now with almost 3 billion people. I am new to Internet Marketing and think that adding twists and a great marketing plan can get you on your way. Great share and will def subscribe.
