Started this thread to keep me motivated on my journey + to let people know what might take to outrank the big competitors.
So far my website isn't emd but includes the term in the domain.
Website that i want to rank is 1yr old (but was afk most of the time) + now it has a pr 2 and around 100 backlinks from various sites.
Right now it's not even in top 100, the experiment just started and i'm working with a friend.
I think i've got the experience, i've succesfully ranked #1 in 80k, #2 in 150k, #2 in 95k exact monthly searches sites so far but competition was medium size and plenty of other sites + customers in the past.

The competition down to numbers:
60mil results - well i don't really care about this, i pay more attention to top 10-20 sites
Exact monthly searches: just in the US has 300k + and 400k global
average DA: 60.7 (2 sites with DA 100, wiki + another one)
average PA: 54.4 (biggest has PA 82 - it's an inner page)

The ones in this area have up to 125k backlinks, yet few of them are actually on the exact term in most of the cases bellow 20%.

My strategy of link building (plan):
Inner linking - most important, i plan on getting over 500 links from the website alone with good quality content (all manual)
reddit - not sure yet
pinterest - 1k
tumblr - 1k
yahoo answers - 500
blogger.com - over 1k
dailymotion + youtube - videos + adding link - 5k

google plus shares and + (planning to get 3k in total)
fb shares and likes (5k+)
directories submissions - 100
web 2.0 profiles - 200
high pr web 2.0 posts (i have my own network) - 50
forum profiles - only where pr > 1 - 100
manual blog commenting - 100

Well i don't want to leave footprints and i'll go mostly for tier 1 links. Most of the content will be unique and if spun i'll use a really hard to detect article with a freakin huge variation.

In case you got some suggestions to websites where to build my links pm or reply, looking to get as many backlinks as i can from high DA sites.

Costs:
Domain - 9.5$ per year
Hosting - 7$ per month = 84$ per year
Overall spent: 93.5$

*I won't use any indexing or pinging software out there, just will use plain indexing methods and let G do it's best.

I might not succeed in this journey but damn i will try!

Nice thread :) Not sure how much directory submission will help but if ti's used for anchor link diversification it's cool.

A lot of things have to work. Good luck :)
All of links point to your site??

Nice. Thanks for sharing the blueprint. Will keep coming back, do post the rank changes as they happen. Cheers :)

Most of them go to main site, that's why i have picked most of them with high DA.

May I ask in what niche you are in?

Will be interesting to follow :)

Good luck!

Make sure you have something in place to collect the opt in, that should be the primary focus/purpose of your site over and above the one time affiliate link click.

Now that is a nice plan :) But you missed a major factor for ranking these days. Where are the pumper sites!!

Good luck with your journey. Work hard, be patient and you will make it.

Cheers.

Sounds like an ambitious case study! Update us regularly, this one should be interesting

Awesome. I'll keep track of you. Don't forget to vary your anchor text. You can also add some document sharing sites on your "backlink list", just to make everything look more natural (of course, if you are in a niche where this is appropriate).

A lil inspiration OP - 7 months ago I was thinkin about the impossible. This is to show you that hard work and dedication always pays off. :)

One tip - focus more on your sites authority not on rankings and youll see the benefits after 3-4 months.

This keywords homepage or different inner pages ?

@OP and stevejohns
You make me believe again that I can outrank Wiki and some other Big sites.

I am following this thread and hope that you're open to answer some questions.

Day 1
Website created with a nice template (wp), installed plenty of useful plugins + 3 blog posts with unique content created.
One of the blog posts is focused on a long tail keyword.
Sadly my plan of using dailymotion for backlinking failed because i can add backlink just in the user profile and not in the videos.

- 2 blog comments in some high pr sites got approved
- 3 yt videos + backlinks to main site
- 2x pr 3 web 2.0 posts created with backlink to the main url using anchor text
- 1 vimeo + trilulilu backlink - video (still searching for more networks to post videos with links)
- fb official page created and added all the posts into there

So far domain is not found anywhere in searches :), but i'll keep it going. So on the first day i was mostly focused on video backlinks rather than normal ones.

Go ahead and start learning about internal linking, and start internally linking your website/pages together, while it's still tiny. Link building should be an organic strategy, when you create quality content, on your website/blog people will naturally link to it.

Forget the easy way out, it doesn't work guys...
