[Case Study] Ranking a website in 2016

Greetings ! Some of you might be already thinking : "another case study that won`t be finished" . Right ... but i`ll do my best to don`t loose my motivation and update this thread. (My english is not perfect , sorry for that).

Keywords:

For this case study, I took a 35k ms brazilian gaming niche to be my main keyword. The competition is pretty strong and it has around 500,000 search results in google.com.br (for brazil). I`ll be targeting also some subkeywords.

**This niche is white hat.

Status Updates :


First 2 Weeks :

I decided to create this thread after 2 weeks since i started. So far, this is what i`ve done since then :

- I bought a brand new .com.br domain. It`s a brandable domain and it doesn`t contain the keyword.

- I`ve setup a wordpress website, translated a 250 words article from english to portuguese using bing translator, fixed some translation issues, optimized it for my main keyword and made it my site frontpage. ( I know it`s a bit tiny article, i plan to add some more content to front page soon). I also created a page targeting a subkeyword and linked to it from the front page.

-I`ve searched for a few brazilians blogs on my niche and analyzed their links profile using ahrefs trial, and i`ve emailed a couple of them asking to advertise a text link on their articles, and so far , only 1 webmaster replied and allowed me to buy a ******** link there for R$15 for 1 month , about 4 dollars (very cheap, i think they are not aware that i`m buying this for seo ). For this site, i used a long generic anchor, something like "Click here to check some others ... at mybrandname".

- I`ve made a web 2.0 on wordpress.com and also translated some articles and put them on front page. I placed a link to my money site on the first article of the homepage. I bought 200 public blog network posts links to this web 2.0 homepage. For that , I spent $5 dollars on Fiverr. (The seller is also selling it here). A week and a half have passed , and the web 2.0 didn`t even get indexed .. This leads me to think that those links were very crappy. I checked the websites that linked and they all seem to be indexed, not sure why google didn`t index my web 2.0 . I got tired of waiting and I indexed it manually. (Any idea what`s going on here guys ?)

-Today, i bought a expired .com.br related to the niche with a lot of decent links already, indexed it and made a 301 to my money site. (Not sure if i should add more links or not ?)

- Right now, i just purchased a .info expired domain that`s is pretty old and has a couple of natural and decent links. I`ll be building a wordpress site on it , putting up some old content from archive.org and adding a link to my money site. I`ll buy 6000 contextual links from fiverr and point them to this website.

( It appeared on 75 once indexed for the first time but dropped hours after)

Went well until you bought the useless fiverr links. Why would you ever put 5 dollar for 6000 links? Try think for yourself, this will definitely harm your site, and make your rankings sky rocket the first few days and then fall down forever afterwards. This will make your site depend on temporary links and not passive. I hope you understand this.

@Vexet I didn`t buy them directly for my money site !!!! they are my tier 2 !!! they are linking to the expired domain ! Still , do you think that`s a bad idea ?

Update :

Just purchased 15 pbn links from a well known PBN here in the market place to act as tier 1. A bit risky, but based on previous project should be safe. Hopefully i`ll have the same luck i had back in 2013 when i ranked 1st for another project using that same service and a couple of others.
I`ll be keeping pbn links as well as links purchased on niche relevant websites as my t1.
I forgot to mention that i already owned a EMD for the niche with decent links, i`ve put up some articles on it and linked to my money site

Wait. I'm not sure I've read it well.

Your keyword is highly competitive and you're doing a case study with a 250 translated article? That will just never make it buddy. No matter how strong your external backlinks are, you need actual and real content if you want to at least hope make it in the top 10.

@TayaX That`s a good point and as I mentioned, I`ll be working on it in the following days, perhaps , by analyzing my competition website, they have no content, just a script that pretty much all websites in the niche are using. It would make no sense trowing a 1000 word content in the page. But your comment made me think of a strategy. Due the nature of the niche, i`m thinking in making the front page as a landing page describing what i`m offering and put up a button that gives access to the actual script homepage. What do you guys think ? I`m just a bit concerned about bounce rate and if it would convert or not.

Strategies should not be based on how bad your competition is, but how good you can make it. on page SEO & content is 50% of the work when it comes to long term ranking. A nice landing page with a button at the top and & teh same button at the bottom may reduce bounce rate.

Upate II :

I`ve cancelled the 6000 contextual links from fiverr, and instead, i purchased some cheap "pbn" posts from fiverr to act as tier 2 for my .info expired domain. I made the expired websites look legit, by adding contact pages and some other things. Currently, I`m working in a new page for my money site, reoptimizing and adding new content.

@TayaX Was right ! I redesigned my page, handwritten content and made google index the changes ... Here are the results :



Not sure if the rankings will stay, but let`s see.

Personally I would've gone with the contextual spam over the cheap pbn links. I've bought a few cheap pbn packages on here, and the domains seem to deindex quickly. With 6k contextual links enough of them will index and stick that you'll probably end up with more juice.

Nice, ya pbn sites or just some pbn posts can be very helpful. We've been building a pbn and it's def leading the way in SE ranking.

True, but I was a little concerned . The cheap pbn links should be fine with the expired domain, I see that it already is indexed.

Good to hear ! Spent $120 for 15 posts to be my t1 .

Ranks are pretty stable now ! Can't wait to see the links kick in. Seems that this sandbox thing is bs . At least , all keywords I'm targeting are in top 100.

I meant that the cheap pbn domains tend to get deindexed, I don't think they'll cause your expired domain to be deindexed. Contextual spam has similar problems, plus pages get deleted over time, but if you have 6000 links vs a few hundred cheap pbn links you will probably end up with better long term value from the contextual spam.
