Tonight I believe I have witnessed something magnificent. A piece of link building which is truly black hat and sums up what we should all aspire to be like.

To set the story, Charles Floate this morning was guest published on the Ahrefs.com blog, this is the post:
https://blog.ahrefs.com/remove-google-penalty-302-redirect/

As usual for work by this person, the article was sub-par and very poor and frankly it was just another case of false information packaged up for the noobs to read, but what happened next is the genius part.

The real charles floate twitter handle is @Charles_SEO, but you may not know that there is a troll twitter handle of a parody account called @GodofSEO. @GodofSEO with a few simple tweets has just stolen the credit for this article, and ahrefs are now promoting the troll account as the real charles floate.

As usual, ahrefs tweeted out the link, crediting the real author:

A quick reply, just 6 words long was all it took from @GodofSEO (the troll):

THEY FELL FOR IT!

But is this the end? NO! Not happy with his efforts our grand wizard troll wants Ahrefs to update their website links as well!

They even appologized... Now I have checked the Ahrefs website, they don't appear to have updated the link but this could be a cache delay... the real test will be to see if its updated in a few days time.

#ThisIsTrolling #ThisIsBlackhat

Be inspired, use this tactic and steal the internet.

Isn't Charlie still banned from using a computer?

New era of link building is coming lolz :D

I think he is Charles Floate, and this exchange is a lot less interesting than you've made it out to be. There are other articles credited to the same guy, and even on the GodofSEO site he has guest posting from Matthew Woodward, etc... unless the whole thing is completely trolled up.

I don't think there is much to see here. Of course if it was a coincidence than it's a great story, but I think it's super likely he really is Charles Floate. Consider it.

I know for a fact he is not charles floate.

Please see the time stamp on this tweet, posted about 45 seconds before this post.

Interesting to see how Google destroyed the organic value of links and these days links are just a currency that's being speculated over like any other currency or equity.

I see all sorts of Reddit posts with disguised marketing in them. Trolling and getting apparently serendipitous links is an art these days. Just create a factoid, like the recent story about octopus being aliens, and get thousands of links.

It's not about quality links folks, it's about manipulating the masses. Trolling is an art.

If trolling is an art, I am Da Vinchi

It's actually successful trolling that got me interested in internet marketing in the first place. Google "Anatomy of a Troll Job". The method described in the article is also something I saw in real time in Sweden, when American Apparel got some pictures from their web store in national media, simply by triggering some feminist bloggers.

F#cking outstanding, lol. They should be ashamed they posted his nonsense in the first place. Guest posting by some clown pretending to be Charlton.

Ahrefs blog is the biggest joke.

They let an author state he is "God of SEO" in his author bio. That tells you enough...

I love the fact that God of Underage can't reply to the comments haha

That post alone tells you all you need to know about Ahrefs...a bunch of Warrior Forum-ish SEOs all writing utter bullshit.
