[Case Study] Let's Rank Without Backlinks :)

Hello everybody,

I've been thinking about ranking without backlinks those past few days and decided to check if this is really possible, I've tried to find if there was anyone who claimed that they ranked without backlinks and it seems there are plenty of them so this really intrigued me

I honestly don't really think this is possible but anyway I don't know for sure until I test it right? So I decided to start a case study and I'll be posting every single thing I do for website in this thread, so that it will be more fun

I'll start this on Sunday and before that I want to make a list of things to do in order to rank website, I'll do ANYTHING (with reasonable price of course) except backlinks

So, what I wanted to say is that I'm open for suggestions, i.e. suggest me a thing to do to get it ranked and we'll see if I manage to rank using those things..

I personally want to go with big social activity, like mentions in twitter/facebook posts, many shares/retweets/pins/likes/diggs/othershit from real accounts (hopefully I can get dozens of real people to do this kind of stuff on my websites easily lol, don't ask how ).
I will also post 1 average quality 500 word article per day and do best onsite optimization I can for this website.

I'll try to rank for 2-3 medium and around 3-5 low competition keywords with CPC >=1$, haven't choosen keywords yet..

That's pretty much all I have thought about yet so yeah post your suggestions here and I'll try to do EACH of them.

My goal would be to get site in at least TOP 10 in one of the medium competition keywords and in TOP10 in all low competition keywords and keep it there for at least 30 days.

I'll be trying for 45 days and if I won't get near my goal by this time I'll just rank it with backlinks. Of and yes I also want to see if such website will be easier to rank or not so in case I won't reach goal and I'll need to do backlinks for it, I'll build 1/3 of backlinks that I normally do for other websites to rank in similar competition keywords.

maybe and never would fit

on the serious side... why making your life harder going that route when with couple of high quality backlinks you can rank in no time? it is like having a wheel invented but don't wish to use it..

I've already outlined that I don't think this will work, I'm just curious because I've seen many guys claiming that they ranked damn good.. It's a bit of fun to try from my view and also I want to know if it's easier to rank a website that has a big social activity (I mean rank with backlinks)

Most of the people thst claim to rank with backlink is targgeting keywords with really low searches ehich it isnt profitable

Yup it's possible to Rank your website without backlinks within 2-4 months or maybe more depending on your content.

I would help you with your case study and as a proof i have tried my self to rank my website with only unique content and yeah its work.

let me tell you one important thing. Google release the secrete of how to rank your website with each msg on your webmaster tools. I got this msg few days ago!

I really would grab one sentence only from all this crap which is (If you have just added new content) they didn't say if you have increased your backlinks! does this make sense to you? for me YES


Well if you really want to rank your website you need to work on content with solid keywords optimization and be sure you will do it.

Content and only content guys this is how google work now days!

I second this.
And the time actually depends on the comeptition and difficulty of the keyword.

It will rank. Keep adding consistent content on daily basis. But yeah it will take a while(few months) but later on the ranking will be quick as it will gain authority. Its a great long term strategy if you don't want to get fucked by those updates.

It's possible, I partially did that, I mean I am just adding content but I am not ranking for any of my main keywords but still I am getting good traffic, that means I am ranked for a lot of long tails which I don't even now, so I just keep adding new articles etc.

It's possible. I'm doing the same thing with an IM journey post I started a while back, ranking #5 for my main kw which has a slight amount of competition.

I've heard of people doing it. But even social shares are backlinks in a sense.

Guys, remember that I seek for a methods that you think will help me to rank (except backlinks).
You guys say that consistently updated content does the trick but takes few months.. but if we add few other things it should speed process up one thing I want to do is real social activity (all kind), Any other suggestions?

@d3t0x ​Yes you are right but we all know that social signals aren't same as traditional backlinks (from web2.0's for example), I personally don't look at them as a source of backlinks..

It can be done and has been done by many. Content is KING.

Well its impossible to actually do if your going to get loads of traction on social sites. Why? Because then links will come naturally from the amount of social reach you got hence then voiding the "without backlinks" theory.

I have real life experiences on both situations.

If you can grab keywords that are hot and not used widely, you can easily rank your sites for #1 spot in a few days.

But for high competitive niches, it is almost impossible to rank no matter how good/fresh your content is.

I started to do this in one blog, its exactly same thing you're doing in January and it's starting to rank now, it's a seasonable business, the important is to be very well ranked in the end of the year, for now, im happy with the SERPS.


With a good content, i think can rank okay in some terms. I've been writing 500-700 words in each post.
