I am always hearing comments that this domain ranks better than this one, etc.. but never any facts so I registered an EMD in .COM/NET/ORG/MOBI/INFO/US for a keyword with 3600 exact month searches and $1+ CPC. I believe I can rank fairly well in google with onsite SEO alone which is why I chose this keyword. Each site has 3 500 word articles and it is the same set of articles on each site. I won't be pinging them or trying to force indexing/crawling in anyway, all 6 sites are hosted on the same IP. My goal is to see which one naturally gets the best rank. I will let this run for 2-3 months as that should give plenty of time to see where they will stand on their own. Once I have my results I will pick another EMD where I can register all extensions which I believe can be ranked purely by onsite SEO and I will once again do 3 500 word articles, however I will make the articles to each site unique aside from the targeted keyword, total word count, and keyword density and will put each site on a separate class C just to see if the results are any different. If anyone has a suggestion for my second case study on a way to do this and why then I am open to it as there could be more factors. At the end of this I will give these domains away to users on the site who I feel could use them as this is not a keyword I would target for one of my own sites. Don't ask for the domains or PM about them or you won't get one, when I gather the details I am looking for I will make a post looking for people to give them to. I will update this thread when the sites have indexed, any significant rank changes, final results, etc..
This has been done a 1000 times.. Just like your research will find that google and others with prefer the top tld.s .. There is no on paper to state this buy only the millions of people that have failed quicker with shitty .us and .cc like myself .. .com and .info u shouldnt even have wasted ure money on this man !! Fair play to trying but ure research still doesnt mean anything again.. no one knows really what the google bot entails but we have a fair idea And that idea has been tested and tried a 1000 times to suggest that top tlds are more beneficial to getting boom boom in the serps
I looked around and couldn't find any studies, not that they don't exist but I didn't see them. Therefor I don't want someones word for it I want to know for sure as I am doing this for myself, just figured I might as well share the results. All the domains combined were about $20.00 and my buddy wrote the articles for free, I have a dedicated server with 8 GB ram, dual quad cores, 1.5 tb hard drive, unmetered dedicated 100 mbit, etc.. So hosting obviously wasn't an issue. If you can't drop 20 bucks to be positive about something then get out of IM.
Should always test things yourself, too much BS on forums to get the real facts. Helps you develop a better 'feel' about what works. When I find time I want to do an experiment with AMR and spun vs. unspun articles. I have had success with both, yet the necessity of spinning is taken as gospel... So go for it, I say.
I swear by .com and have consistently noticed the best results from them. The only time I pick up other extensions is to target local SEO in a specific country such as .ca, .co.uk. com.au, etc.
I always stick to .com when possible but .net/org is fine. One of my reasons for this project is I have a .us I have owned for about 5 years which I would like to rank as my personal project and am debating if it is worth doing or if I should just try and buy an aged domain.
I've had .info and .org domains do better then .com's at times. I don't really think it makes a difference just as long as you have what people are looking for ...
Indexed Pages .com - 0 .net - 6 .org - 6 .info - 5 .mobi - 2 .us - 7 .us is ranked 197 right now, the others don't hold any rank yet
I have owned over a thousand domains. Run on same IPs, spread across different IP's, scraped content, unique content, same keyword densities, and different combos of the above. .com will conquer all given that all things are equal. .org/.net are a close second as I will pick up a EMD .net/.org and can rank higher than a someone elses .com. I don't care what anybody else says about .info being just as good. From my personal experience they SUCK for long term SEO. I have ranked .infos for low competition KW but the rankings drop over time as it is much easier for someone to bump you down if they have a .com/net/org. I still have a .info ranking 2 for a search term but the .com is still available. I'm sure if I bought the .net/com/org it would over rank my info easily. Only thing good about infos is they are cheap to use for throw away domains. I cannot say on all the others as I do not have experience with us/mobi etc...
Thanks for the update. Interesting! Too early to tell still of course. So wait, am I right in understanding you haven't done any backlinking at all. But it's taken TEN DAYS and the .com content hasn't been indexed at all?! That usually takes me about 12 hours, just by submitting a sitemap in GWT. As for seeing ANY ranking, like, even 100+, well that can vary a lot more but I would still expect something to happen a little quicker than that. Just doing some new sites now, so will have to see how it goes for me.
There is no backlinking and I won't attempt to. I am not sure how you would expect to see something happen quicker than that naturally ranking without even knowing what the competition looks like. For the .com not ranking my assumption would be that it is duplicate content related as all sites have the exact same articles but I am still just letting everything sit naturally and see what happens. Another reason it will be a good comparison to see what happens with these, then when I try again using same word count and keyword density but with unique articles.
