HANDS-ON
On the website, Yoast SEO needed an update, so I handled that immediately. Then, I took the second of the five category pages and hand-wrote 300+ words in the description, utilizing a captioned and alt-tagged image, a specific keyword I had not used yet that was high-traffic, a nice ordered list, links to a few relevant articles on my site, and headings. Yoast put me 100% in the green regarding SEO. I was satisfied. I edited the meta title and meta description to fit unique text, and that was that for the second category page.
Then I went to the four posts that applied to that category and changed them from the general and/or featured category to the new one. I also spent some time accurately tagging the four articles until I was satisfied. Each got between four and six tags. Let?s do one more too.
I took the third of the five category pages and hand-wrote 300+ words in the description, utilizing a captioned and alt-tagged image, a specific keyword I had not used yet that was high-traffic, a nice ordered list, links to a few relevant articles on my site, and headings. You should have posted all of these updates to a blog and posted half of each update to BHW and linked to your blog for the full case study..

I don't understand the people chiming in with concerns on the amount you have spent. Given what you are trying to achieve and comparing to my own projects for right or wrong i think your just getting started. This has been and continues to be a great read. So far the only thing I'd of done very differently would be to use bots and snap etc for social in the early stages then got more hands on and utilised VAs later. But I fully respect your hands on complete control approach. Look forward to the next update Sherb.

I am one of those people that chimed in asking about 'Sherbert Hoover's' expenditures.
To clarify I wasn't concerned with how much he spent for an authority site. It was more how much he's spent in money, in time and how little money was coming in (rate of income) given the amount of traffic he had.
I was wondering if he could SEE his site getting much more traffic and then earning a good amount of money at this point, after having spent $$ and lots of time.
$1000 for an authority site is not unreasonable IMO.

When you get more posts on your site it's a great little tool. Can catch a readers eye to click through to another post and when the site is crawled shows different links on every page. I use it on all my WP sites.

This thread is the main reason I come to BHW at the mo - it's really caught my imagination for some reason.
Anyway, Sherbert, I think you're a tiny bit too invested in the daily visitor numbers. It reads a bit like me getting on the scales in the morning and going 'fuck! I gained a gram! But I ate that salad wtf!'
I've learned that the internet is a mass of semi-random clicks and my sites get sort of consistent results, but improvements come weeks or months after I've done the work. (Yesterday and today I had awesome adsense income, like Black Friday income, but it was 4 weeks ago that I went mental and added a bunch of new sections to the site).
So my advice, for what little it's worth, is keep an eye on monthly visitors, keep improving the site, and have a medium-term outlook instead of a short-term one. We're all rooting for you! (Except that one dude, but that's the internet for you.)
