[CASE STUDY] Building an Authority Website Using 100% BHW Services

This is what I did yesterday:
Time to kick it into overdrive. Enough screwing around.
I started by doing a real dick move. I went to my Pinterest and unfollowed everyone that was following me. I've already got their patronage, I might as well save my "followings" for people I can convert to followers. Confused yet? Good. Then I went to another popular account in my broad niche section and followed 100 pinners that had either 1,000+ pins or 1,000+ followers. I started at 48 followers, I wonder what I will be at tomorrow.
Then, in an effort to do some cleanup, I unfollowed 100 Twitter accounts. I'll do this every day until I am no longer following anyone. Then I will start fresh again, being careful to only follow accounts that will yield me a higher follow back ratio. Why aren't you using a bot, you may ask. I'm really wanting to have as much control and hands-on accountability for this site as possible. If you couldn't tell by the ridiculous effort put into editing every single article line by line that passes by my screen before it hits the site.
Then I went into the website and installed the tagDiv social counter and set it up properly with Facebook and Twitter. I added the widget to the sidebar so it would be shown in all blog/review pages, right underneath the search. Then I headed over to check out some stats on Google Webmaster Tools. Here they are publicly for your viewing pleasure as of Thursday, February 11th at 5:00pm EST:
Structured Data: 254 items on 36 pages, zero errors
HTML Improvements: "We didn't detect any content issues with your site."
Search Analytics (since 1/8): 25 total clicks, 1,322 impressions, 1.89% average CTR
Links to my site: 48 (also 48 links indexed on my site, so that's cool)
Manual actions: "No manual webspam actions found."
Mobile usability: "No mobile usability errors detected."
Checking on my three ad spaces for AdSense (header, in-text, and bottom of article), I was looking at the following stats:
Header: $0.72 estimated earnings, 212 impressions, 2 clicks
In-Text: $0.01 estimated earnings, 75 impressions, 1 click
Bottom of Article: $1.20 estimated earnings, 77 impressions, 1 click
With the stats checked and social media taken care of for the day, it was time to edit one of the articles from NatashaNixon's pack I had received a few days earlier. The article started at 398 words, and didn't really get too much into detail on any one subject, so I did some serious editing.
This new level of focus I am attaining is working wonders. I took that 398 word article to 972 words within 30 minutes. I had five article links in a bulleted list, as well as all six product reviews and links to social media without it being at all spammy. This article was top notch. I set the meta information, did some keyword SEO, set an image with a proper alt tag, and posted it up. I pinned it to my featured articles Pinterest board, and added it to Twitter and Facebook as well with the proper imagery. In this process, I noticed Hootsuite put up a link to an article that wasn't even in my niche. I deleted it from Facebook and Twitter. Gotta stay consistent to the audience.
Less than an hour later, I had been liked/retweeted already on my recently posted article. Seven of the 100 Pinners I had added had followed me back. Things were going swimmingly. With five hours left in the day, I was headed towards my highest traffic day yet. Exciting numbers, since my last three days were 17, 22, and 27 respectively. A nice uphill climb.
For my last task of the evening, I popped into KnowEm and checked what sites had my exact match username available. I was going to tie some of my online reputation management tricks into this site to help rank and bank. I discovered that the following high-level social media sites were still available: BuzzFeed, DailyMotion, Easy, HubPages, Imgur, Livejournal, Issuu, MySpace, Photobucket, Reddit (username, I already had the subreddit), Scribd, Tumblr, TypePad, Soundcloud, UStream, Vimeo, and YouTube. Score. I wasn't just going to rank my site, I was going to take over this niche. I created a Buzzed account, pimped it out, and called it a day. It let me have links to my site, Twitter, and Facebook right in the profile. Nice! More to come with this.

I likely could have done this without spending any money besides the domain name. However the time that would have had to be put into the project would have exceeded the time I have available with my current workload and commitments, and I had the money to shell out, so I went that route. Put a value on your time per hour, and stick with it is my motto.
I understand where you are coming from. I have over half a dozen current income streams stretching across six figures of total income per year currently. This is more of a case study type of project. My end goal is to get this site to the phase where I can begin to pull off the throttle in a few months and put effort on this to 20% of what it was, and then focus that other 80% on a new project using Ste's keyword. I'd love to have five passive, ridiculously high-quality and streamlined sites running by mid 2017.
Nah. If it causes issues I will change some text and keywords up. But for now it's fine. I've ranked a client site with 100 articles on the same keyword.

Time to get some work done! I still had fourteen articles from NatashaNixon waiting in the wings for an edit and a post, and now I just got seven great-quality articles from Eternal1912. So I've got 21 articles to use to my advantage. Before doing anything else, I wanted to do a little quick social media update.
I went into Pinterest and unfollowed 50 accounts that had a low count of followers and/or pins. Then I went to a related niche account and followed 100 relevant accounts with a high count of followers and pins. The in Twitter I decided I wanted to unfollow everyone and start fresh instead of manually unfollowing 100 accounts a day. So, I started at 2,121 Twitter following with 350 followers. I went to my list of accounts I followed and scrolled all the way down to the bottom, letting them all load up. Then I opened my Chrome console and pasted in this code: $('.user-actions-follow-button').click()
Within a few minutes I was back down to zero. Wonderful. Then I went to the Twitter page for one of the product brands I had a few site reviews for and loaded up some followers, went to the Console, and put in this code: __cnt__=0; jQuery('.Grid-cell .not-following .follow-text').each(function (i, ele) { ele = jQuery(ele); if (ele.css('display')!='block') {console.log('already following:', i); return;} setTimeout(function () {ele.click();}, __cnt__++*500); }); A couple minutes after that, I was sitting at 359 accounts I follow (from zero). I already had eleven new followers five minutes later.
Step one of three of my day for this project was complete. Step two was to post another article. So, the article in question began its life at 414 words total. I replaced some pieces with lines from other articles, switching up the words for originality. I included a bulleted list of some of the most comprehensive articles. I included a few product reviews, social media links, and some creative heading titles to draw reader attention. I did SEO and added an image and set up the alt tags appropriately. When I was done, I had more than doubled the article length, and that 414 word article had blossomed into a 957 word behemoth I was extremely proud of.
I published that monster and made it a full-length article instead of the blurb it once was. Then I pinned it to my regular Pinterest board, added it to Facebook, and added it to Twitter, all with a stellar matching image to go along with it. And oh hey, I was at 367 Twitter followers less than an hour after the unfollow massacre and refollow.
I was planning on doing a second article today, but cooler heads prevailed and another project required some emergency attention, so I was going to call it quits at this point.

Why aren't you spending more time on this project?
I've got a full time job, a thriving side business, several side projects, a few hobbies, and a wife and dog to pay attention to. I'm surprised I can even find an hour a day to work on this project. Slow and steady wins the race is my plan.
Why haven't you bought PBN links yet?
I'm not about that life. If an SEO package I purchase contains PBN links, so be it, but I'm not going to outright purchase links to some random's blog network.
Where is the cash flow, bro?
Patience. As I stated a week or so ago, I am comfortable sinking around $2,000 into this project before I start reaping in any benefits. That still stands today. I'm going for quality and longevity on my own terms.
PLANS
Tomorrow I will follow more people on Pinterest and Twitter, rewrite and post another article, and take that high-quality aged Tumblr from a while back and rebrand it as my own, adding in another re-written article and a good-quality link to my site. I will also do some work on that Micro Niche related site I received a month or so ago and had planned on using just for a few backlinks on properties I control.
Wednesday I will continue the Pinterest and Twitter campaigns and rewrite yet another article. I will also use KnowEm and register some more social network properties with exact match names. I'm also planning on submitting another 10-15 links to the subreddit.
Thursday, you guessed it, will be more Pinterest and Twitter work, and another two article rewrites. One of these articles will go on the website immediately. The other one will go exclusively on one of the social media outlets I have created, with a link back to the website and sharing on my high-profile social accounts.
Friday I will take a break from writing and focus on enhancements to the Tumblr, micro niche site, and social networks, and post a few comments of my own from that list of comment-enabled blog posts ranking higher than my site for my search term. See if I can obtain some links back.

I also wanted to take some time to thank those of you who have been frequenting this thread for making it one of the top 150 most-viewed journey threads on BHW. In a section with over 4,300 threads in total, that's a nice achievement. I don't plan on slowing down any time soon, so I'm sure the exposure will continue to rise, but I will continue to thank each and every post that comes into this thread.

well...when it comes to engagement and especially click through rates, no social network beats pinterest (though i wouldn't call pinterest sm), so it is a very wise choice by Sherbert - along with twitter for some easy traction. The life time of a decent pin is probably 2-3 years and will give you 20.000 clicks. A instagram post on an account with 1.000 followers will give you what? 10 if you are lucky.
All in all instagram is, at least for me, more a branding kind of thing to keep loyal followers entertained. But ofc I got really no clue about instagram marketing and could be doing everything wrong and not reaping any rewards ^^

On another note, my site is #3 for my search term in Yahoo. But who uses Yahoo?

Alright. Step one. Pinterest. When the morning began I had 91 followers and was following 720 accounts. Pretty terrible ratio. Side note, does anyone else have the issue when they are unfollowing people on Pinterest where they have to click unfollow time with a second or two delay before it will actually let you unfollow? I'm having that issue, and it makes speed unfollowing a pretty miserable task. So, I scrolled all the way down to the list of 720, and unfollowed every single person with under 100 pins or under 100 followers before I felt like I was wasting my time. Got about halfway up the list and axed 83 followings, and was sitting at 637. Then I found the Pinterest page for one of the products I had a review on the site for. I followed everyone I could who had over 100 pins and over 100 followers, and ended up at 751 following, so another 114. Let's see what that nets me by the end of the day.
Step two. Twitter. I was at 366 followers. I was following 362. I found this code at Github to unfollow all Twitter users not following me back: $('.ProfileCard-content').each(function(){var status = $(this).find('.FollowStatus').text();var unfollowButton = $(this).find('.user-actions-follow-button');if(status != 'follows you'){unfollowButton.click();}});. Figured I'd give it a shot. I went to my Twitter following page and scrolled down to get them all. I was left with 37 following. Spot checked a few. The code worked perfectly and took just a few seconds to run. Score. I was going to cool it on the following for today, and only followed 150 new accounts, and did so manually, without any code. It's a new account because I was too dumb to use one of my aged ones, and I don't want it banned.
(Just a sidenote, using setInterval(function() { window.scrollTo(0, document.body.scrollHeight); }, 2000); will automatically scroll to the bottom of each hitch in the Twitter following screen if you have thousands of followers. As soon as I got done with that account I logged into an account I have with 10k+ followers/following and am currently letting it scroll for a couple hours in a background tab before using the Github script to unfollow those not following me)
Step three. Tumblr. I went into the aged Tumblr and changed up all the settings and information, rebranding it as the site for my niche. I changed the header and avatar and title and description, and deleted the couple of older posts that were on the blog. Then I changed the username to the available exact match for my niche. Then I took one of the articles from NatashaNixon and pasted it in there. The article was average, so I decided to go through and make occasional changes. I didn't want to expand this one to the level of the ones on the site, as it was simply a placeholder and excuse to drop a link in a high-quality, relevant article on an aged, high DA/PA social media profile. I added some tags, dropped a solid link, and posted. Boom.
Step four. Facebook. I didn't want to do all too much here, as I still had that traffic campaign going. What I did do was a search for my overarching topic through Facebook search, and post a relevant comment with a link to my site or one of the articles on five different recent posts. I wonder if this will yield any return traffic-wise? We will have to see.
Step five. Blog post. I took another one of NatashaNixon's articles, this one started at 411 words, and modified the living hell out of it. I took it to 1,256 words. Yeah. With a pros and cons list, product review links, quotes from other people in the niche, and social media links as well. I went a bit overboard on quality. I published, and then I pinned it to my regular Pinterest board, added it to Facebook, and added it to Twitter, all with a stellar matching image to go along with it.
Step six: Automation. I wanted to get the product review pages into the social media profiles (Facebook and Twitter). I also wanted to see if I could increase site exposure in the mornings (6am to noon my viewership was very low). So I went into Hootsuite and scheduled out posts for earlier in the morning for the next six days on the current six product reviews. A catchy title, a shortened link, and an associated image. I set them all between 8am and 8:30am for the next six days (until the 22nd). Let's see if that helps out the viewership, especially to those pages and that section.
I am cutting out the micro niche site work for today, and instead planning on doing that later in the week or sometime next week. I got a lot done today on the site, even with a completely bogged-down day work-wise. Go team.

Wednesday I will continue the Pinterest and Twitter campaigns and rewrite yet another article. I will also use KnowEm and register some more social network properties with exact match names. I'm also planning on submitting another 10-15 links to the subreddit.
Thursday, you guessed it, will be more Pinterest and Twitter work, and another two article rewrites. One of these articles will go on the website immediately. The other one will go exclusively on one of the social media outlets I have created, with a link back to the website and sharing on my high-profile social accounts.
Friday I will take a break from writing and focus on enhancements to the Tumblr, micro niche site, and social networks, and post a few comments of my own from that list of comment-enabled blog posts ranking higher than my site for my search term. See if I can obtain some links back.
The weekend I'm currently unsure of. I may get a ridiculous amount accomplished on this project. I may get nothing done. We shall see. Stay tuned!

Nice journey man... I've noticed that you spent over $800 on your authority website and you outsourced low competition keywords and it's been almost 2 months and you're having problems with rankings... I've started my new authority website month ago and without any off-site SEO, just on-site SEO I managed to hit top 100 for some keywords with over 50k monthly searches... So, Im guessing what is wrong with your low competition keywords and great outsourced content... You should already hit 1st 10 pages of google for many long-tail keywords and for some of your main keywords...

I saw that you've lost some likes. Could you please see from which countries are your likes? If the likes are from tier 3 countries, you may see some decreasing even if it's from paid advertisement. Also, what is the target audience for the advertisements? If the people are not interested in your niche, chances are, that they will unlike your page.

I have that issue as well. I am not actually sure if it is a delay or some sort of bug that you actually have to unfollow them a second time. To be quite honest I am not really sure if unfollowing is actually necessary. Looks neater though and I guess you would care
