HANDS-ON

Easy target today. All I was planning on doing was bringing one of the six review pages up to par with my needs and specifications.

The target review page for today was 352 words at the beginning, and had one unrelated image. I added thumbnails to the four images relating to the product, made as many Yoast SEO sections as possible green, and set the alt text on the thumbnails to match my keyword for the article/product review.

I then added four product review excerpts from the Amazon reviews of the product. Then I added an ORDER NOW section at the very bottom with an Amazon short link. That?s it! When I was done, the whole thing was sitting at 535 words.

PLANS

I'm in it for the long haul on this one and taking my time, both work-wise and financially. I have no need to rush into this. I currently have over a dozen various streams of income that are growing year over year.

Why would I take advice from someone with a 50% failure rate?

Almost had a mental break last night. I have OCPD, which occasionally greatly affects my productivity and work world, and causes me to reflect on how much stress I am putting on myself. It happens once every year or so, and usually leads to me killing off several of my projects utilizing the 80/20 principle.

My second and third case studies have been put on a hiatus, the second one indefinitely, the third one on hold for at least several months. This current case study, while not profitable yet, I see becoming a money machine with enough time and effort sunk into it. It's an investment that I am more than willing to see through to the end.

The content from NatashaNixon arrived, and suddenly I had sixteen 400 word articles ready for posting. I gave the articles a look see. Eight were on the overarching niche, and eight were targeted to the sub niche. Score.

I started by removing the unrelated featured images from all six product reviews. This will allow me to immediately add at least six articles to the site with images immediately. These sixteen articles are shorter, so I will be calling them ?blurbs? on the site, and categorizing them as such, so that I can make a ?recent? posts block on the home page. I added the blurb category to the website, and created six new ?Add Posts? tabs.

I?m not going to focus on getting the SEO part handled, just to add six of the posts and getting the image set, then adding the blurb section to the home page. I added all six posts, three from the overarching niche and three from the sub-niche, fixing the headings and adding in a featured/in-text image (same image), and setting the category. Worked just fine.

I filtered the current home page recent posts widget to just the main posts category, which removed the blurbs I had just added. I then added a section on the home page, colored it the same color as the top navigation bar (not main nav bar), and added a 1x5 recent posts widget that highlighted blurbs.

That was all for today. Long day ahead.

Continued work on the blurbs, finding more images, and posting remaining ten blurbs for tomorrow (Friday). Saturday will be final edits to a couple of the blurbs, which I will do two at a time (SEO, headings, text edits, etc) until complete. THEN back to the product reviews. Once I am done with that and the main page edits/home page completion, I?ll have 23 articles (at least) and six product reviews. Plenty of content to start solid SEO and obtaining solid traffic. Meaning spending more money.

I used a little trick I found here on BHW for searching for full-sized stock photos from places like Shutterstock that don?t have the watermark. Worked like a charm. Found 28 solid ones. 51.5MB total size at the start. Resized everything down to 800 pixels wide, which shrunk the total size to 6.2MB. Shrinking the height to 533 pixels high shrunk the total size to 5.8MB. Then I ran them through the trusty jpeg compressor. The final product for all 28 images was 1.3MB. Then I uploaded them all to the site.

After this, I posted the remaining ten blurbs to the site, fixing the headings and setting the category to ?Blurbs? and the tag to my niche. Then I added a featured image to each one based on the current new images I had fixed up, and set the alt tag to match the post tag. Then I went to the home page and changed the blurbs color section to be 5x2 instead of 5x1.

I just started my own new website (Like you, i already have income from another website), and i have to say that your thread is not only a great read, it's also a very good step-by-step guide to make sure i don't miss anything.

Although our websites are not the same and my "content" on my website works completely different than yours.

The goal for today was to churn through edits to a couple of blurbs, and that?s it. This goal will continue on into the end of the week, and hopefully be done by the weekend, leaving me with 23 total articles of extremely high quality on the site.

The first blurb was 447 words at the start, and hadn?t been SEO?ed out at all. I made some small edits, added in a product review link and the general social links I had been adding initially, added a meta description and changed up some of the headings after setting the keyword. Got everything to green via Yoast, except "You've used this focus keyword 2 times before?. Whatever. Total end word count was 497. And I considered that one done.

The second blurb was 398 words at the start, and just like the above hadn?t been set SEO-wise. I made some small edits, added in two product review links and the general social links I had been adding initially, added a meta description, changed the title and the meta title, and changed up some of the headings after setting the keyword. Again, I got everything to green via Yoast, except "You've used this focus keyword 2 times before?. Hate that crap. Total end word count was 449. And I considered that one done as well.

Tomorrow will be final edits to a couple more of the blurbs. This will take me the rest of the week. After that I will go back to the product reviews. Today?s (early) goal was to burn through as many edits to blurbs as I could. I had a goal of four.

The first of the day (technically third overall) blurb started at 403 words and no real SEO work. The second of the day (fourth overall) blurb started at 398 words. The third of the day (fifth overall) started at 396 words. The fourth of the day (sixth overall) started at 406 words. I first set keywords for all four articles (I was going to go through them step by step simultaneously). Then I edited the meta title and meta description for all four articles.

The first article of the day got the social lines at the bottom and the addition of a paragraph with two product review links, and edited a few headings to get the Yoast completely in the green. I also changed the URL as well. This article started at 403 words and ended at 498 words. The second article of the day also got the social lines at the bottom and the addition of a paragraph with two product review links, and edited a few headings to get the Yoast completely in the green. The third article got the same treatment as the first two. It started at 396 words, got the full treatment as above, and ended at 487 solid, green-lighted words. The fourth article also got the same exact treatment. It started at 406 words, and ended at 499 words. At this point, I had seven complete long articles, one complete product review, six complete blurbs, ten incomplete blurbs, three incomplete product review pages, and a main product review page I still needed to do, as well as some home page work.

Tomorrow will be final edits to a few more of the blurbs (I?m going for five, so I can do the last five on Wednesday). Thursday and Friday I will do two product review each, then I will do one on Saturday. Sunday I?m taking the day off, then next Monday I will polish up the actual main product review page, and Tuesday I will finish up the home page and start buying some SEO services after spending some time over this next week doing research. I?m going to buy services one at a time to see how results pan out.

I think the editing is eating up the major part of your work hours. Do you think a newbie can cope with a task like this? I think it's easier for you because of your vast experience in setting up websites to generate money. Can't I just buy the services on BHW (website, articles, SEO packages, etc.) and use them the way they are?

Thanks for the luck. I will monetize through AdSense (provided I receive approval) and Amazon in-text links for product reviews. I may also join an affiliate network with related products to the ones I'm pushing.

When applying for AdSense, Google likes to see things like that, in addition to a privacy policy and disclosure. I've read that in a few places and figured why not. Plus it makes the site look more like an "authority" and less like a random blog.

I'm using a "new" domain. There is something in the Wayback Machine from several years ago for it, but I got it normal price off LiquidWeb for $15.

I would rather start my own site from scratch than clean up someone else's I've got several micro niche sites already, and while they provide fast potential, the quality is subpar for my standards.

Are you gonna publish Pillar articles? If yes, are they information articles only?

Do you include the same keyword in more than 1 article?

I already have seven pillar articles live on the site, assuming you consider "pillar" to be 1,000+ words with multimedia, links, lists, and all that jazz. I do include the same keyword on more than one article, yes. If it turns out that this is hurting my ranking and traffic potential, I will find a workaround. And I'm currently focusing on just the main keyword, and will tackle some of the product review and longer keywords afterwards. A top-down approach, as if I can dominate my keyword, I'm likely close to the top with the rest at that point anyways.

You can do whatever you set your mind to, bro. I think I've put maybe 30 hours into this since the beginning, and another 10 into writing the updates and checking the stats. A newbie with a good writing style and the ability to churn out several thousand words a day can get to the point I am at in a couple weeks. I don't consider myself "vastly experienced". My main area of expertise is reputation management and local SEO, so I'm venturing into uncharted territory for me. I've got a bunch of sites, but they don't get much traffic to be honest. They were just pet projects that I've put on the back burner until I wasn't too busy. My client sites on the other hand... those are getting some traffic.

You can definitely use the products and content as-is. If I wasn't such a perfectionist with the need for 100% control and severe OCPD, I'd be doing the same and have saved a good bit of time.
