This should be an interesting journey. My only concern is that if the sellers of the services know that you are analysing them for the benefits of this project they may try to boost their package unfairly ie SEO sellers throwing in extra links but not declaring it. Maybe you can work round this by getting a relatively new member of the forum to purchase the package on your behalf.

Thank you! Worst case if it's something that seems like it's going to be difficult, it will ramp up the sense of challenges.

Sounds interesting, instead of having unlimited buddget why not have a limited budget and try to get an authority site going in that amount so everyone would have an idea how much it would cost. Also what other services are you planing on using to rank? Or are you going to be ranking this yourself?

To be honest I probably won't spend a ridiculous amount. I'm by no means a "big baller". The basic services I plan on purchasing are:

Keyword research
Content
Graphic Design (logo, favicon, square image, etc)
Varied SEO services (probably the largest cost for this project)
Social Signals
Social Account Creation
Press Releases

And whatever else I decide to use. For some services, I have people I have used in the past (PauloPaul for press releases, Andrew Scherer for local SEO stuff, etc). I plan on giving other services a shot to see how they perform.

Other things, domain purchase, hosting, site setup, Wordpress install, theme, I'm going to do myself.

If people are willing to do that, I'm all for it. But in no means will I ever ask for a service for free. Time is money, and I'm always preaching about putting a monetary value on your time. Even if I am offered free services, I will still be donating to their cause, or to a charity of their choice.

EDIT: I will likely also be using the Hire a Freelancer section to pay people for mundane tasks such as following related Twitter accounts and other tedious social media tasks.

I will be using some of the tools I already have as well, such as Hootsuite Pro, SerpWoo, etc.

UPDATE

Andres hooked me up with a keyword that has 2,900 average monthly searches. A simple Google has 5.5 million results, but no real competition. Do I love the keywords? No, definitely not. But he delivered as promised, and it's something I can work with and monetize. I give his keyword service an 8/10. He delivered as promised, but it took twice the time as he was inundated with orders.

Once I got the keyword and was shown the exact match domain, here is what I did:

- Purchased exact match domain name through LiquidWeb ($15/year for the domain, worth it for the ease of use).
- Changed A record, added to cPanel, installed Wordpress to domain name.
- Trashed sample page, comment and post, and Hello Dolly plugin.
- Updated Akismet to the latest version, signed up for free basic version, activated plugin.
- Plugin install: Contact Form 7, Yoast SEO and Analytics, W3 Total Cache, Wordfence Security, and WP Smush.

After doing some research to try and find a very fast-loading Wordpress theme, I ended up installing SEO WP. The niche my keyword is nothing anywhere close to SEO, or anything related to IM, but man this theme is fast, and I had already bought it in the past.

I did the required steps of changing permalink settings, and installed the following required plugins: Live Composer, Mega Main Menu, Meta Box, and WPFW - Menu Management. I also installed the seven recommended plugins and then integrated everything. Some of them needed updates, so I did that too. Then I deleted the old default Wordpress themes.

Curious, I ran Pagespeed Insights on the home page. 83/100 for Desktop, 78/100 for Mobile, and 100/100 for User Experience. Pingdom gave the site an 85/100.

I configured W3 Total Cache with everything except the CDN junk from the tutorial http://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-install-and-setup-w3-total-cache-for-beginners/.

Then I ran Pagespeed Insights again on the home page. No joke, it went to 89/100 for Desktop, 97/100 for Mobile, and 100/100 for User Experience. Pingdom went to 87/100.

I also connected W3 Total Cache to work with Yoast SEO, and emptied the page cache per W3's wishes in my Wordpress console. I also trashed the spammy pages that the plugins created, and emptied the trash. I'm all about cleanliness.

That's all I'm planning on working on the site itself for the day. A little later I'll be pricing out and checking out several graphic designers, as well as content providers. I think I'm going to start with five 1,000 word articles total, one article each from five separate content providers. Review them and see whose I like the most, then bulk order from that provider. Could I write the content myself? Yes, but that would defeat the purpose of this case study.

If anyone has additional suggestions for graphic designers and content providers you've had good experiences with here on BHW, let me know!

SEO WP already needed an update. Got that handled. I also got a notice that multiple plugins needed updating, so that was handled as well. At which point a couple of those required SEO WP plugins needed to be re installed. And then they needed updating. The process happened two more times, until I said screw it and bought the http://themeforest.net/item/newsmag-news-magazine-newspaper/9512331 theme from Themeforest for $51.

After that installed and activated I was able to delete all those crappy plugins and go back to my orderly setup. I was going to install a demo version of the Newsmag theme, but they were incredibly cluttered. I'm not about that life.

I then created the following blank pages: About, Contact, Blog, Disclosure, Privacy Policy. Found a bunch of menus the two themes had added to my site. Trashed them, and made a simple header menu with About, Contact, and Blog. Then I configured Yoast Analytics with a Google Analytics property. Then I verified the site in GWT with a meta tag in the header, and submitted the site to Google through the https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url.

I ran Pagespeed Insights on the relatively blank home page again, because I've got some organization-end OCD: it dropped to 87/100 for Desktop, 72/100 for Mobile, and 99/100 for User Experience. Pingdom was still 87/100.
I decided upon creativez' logo design services from http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/images-logos-videos/410277-professional-logo-design-service-your-brand-unlimited-revisions-starts-29-only.html thread. The entry level logo design was $29, but I grabbed the 10% off code from May that still worked and got it for $26.

This sound like something that will held results. And you are doing great explaining every steps you took. This will help the noobs who have not set up wordpress before.

On the other hand, I have used a lot of article writers and one that I still use is from this user: shikind11, his thread.
Am going to be doing something similar to this early next year. But I will focus on Amazon, and use 100% BHW service to rank and bank. (Most of the time, i only have needs for articles and then SEO services + Social media)

I will be eager to see how much the site will be earning in the next few months
