Petkeen.com - they were able to drive 4.3M/monthly visits (according to Ahrefs/SemRush) in less than two years.

The pet niche is rife with competition. The way these kinds of websites gain traction is by drilling down to the hyper-specific.

Pet Keen focuses on publishing insane amounts of content targeting long-tail keywords. In May 2020 Pet Keen was a 5-page website. The domain has over 25,000 organic pages. That’s roughly over 1,000 new pages of content every month.

Putting out that much content means you’re bound to strike gold. The page “7 Brown Cat Breeds (With Pictures)” gets 21,699 page views per month and ranks #1 for “brown cat.” It holds the top spot with just 5 backlinks.

Pet Keen monetizes with display ads and affiliate links. There’s no way a single site owner could produce all that content. Instead, the owners of Pet Keen likely reinvested their ad and affiliate income heavily into content creation.

This is what it looks like:

An aggressive long-tail content strategy can quickly snowball. In the right niche with enough content opportunities, going from zero to 4.3 million in less than two years seems doable.

You can see their actual monthly output by exporting the best by links file, removing blog-posts pages and anything other than code 200, and then measuring the volume based on the first seen date. The one month they did 1k posts it was mainly just because they did single pages on all types of animals, like https://petkeen.com/boxer/.

This was a great share.

All the vets on the site seem to be attached to the same 3 pet sites. petkeen.com; excitedcats.com; hepper.com.

I wonder if they're real people or just personas that were created.

It's interesting, thank you for sharing! I just don't have the patience for SEO, to wait a minimum of six months for anything to happen I could have ads running and testing and moving on to the next stage.

Love the avatar! They Live! One of the best movies ever made.

Great post, thanks R.D. Note that they don't do in-context, manual internal linking, but just have a related articles plugin. Do you think that's sufficient internal SEO?

Some people on the subreddit were guessing about their content budget each month.

Do you think they were correct in that their spending around $30k - $40k per month?

Lol no way. If they make 400 articles a month like the table shows, at $20 an article that's $8k-$10k a month.

Also says they're with AdThrive/CafeMedia.

Does this seem to be a big group that specializes in these types of affiliate sites?

I saw where that group bought the guys that built a content creation AI program. I forget what it was called, but it competed with Content Harmony I think.

Really? Wouldn't that be like .03/word if only $10k? (assuming, 760 avg words per article * 400). Unless I got the article length wrong, or I'm way off on price

Pretty sure there are 2000 words articles at $20 sold right here on the BHW marketplace if you look for them.

It seems they have brought lots of backlinks, and just not relied on low keywords @RealDaddy can you confirm this
It goes without saying that they did purchase some backlinks in the form of PR or news.

However, they also had the content to back that up.

If I buy a backlink from Forbes to my tech blog which has 100 articles, how much traffic am I going to get extra? Maybe 3,000? That's a big maybe.

When you have 10,000 articles, just one backlink can push an extra 100,000 visitors / month considering all the long tail keywords.

This is a perfect example of hard work for big returns.

If you work 100 hours/week, you will perform 2x or better than the website that spends 40/week.

This example of a website is available to use in any niche. Produce 20,000 articles and it's impossible you won't be banking on $100,000 or so /month.

Only problem is how to get 20,000 articles when you're broke )))

Crazy that they are able to pump out that much content while maintaining quality. I wonder if they outsource articles or have an in-house team
