    Hello everyone!

I have finished my final exams unexpectedly well and now I have the option to study dentistry for free if I choose it. I always was between software engineering and dentistry.

I am still trying to find out the job situation for dentists in my country but I know that software engineers make a lot of money and that is why I am planning to choose it. Also, the social status of being a dentist is very attractive. What are your thoughts on that guys? What shoud I choose?

Both seem like pretty sensible and solid options. Software engineer is highly in demand right now and pays very well. With this knowledge, from my perspective, you may have more creative ability in that you can create your own softwares. Although it is in very high demand and pays well, also be aware that this is no secret and there are many people pursuing that profession for those reasons, thus a high competition. But, all this aside my real advice would be to pursue the choice which you feel more aligned with and which you can see yourself being happier with. You will likely be spending a majority of your time doing this profession for the rest of your life so take that into consideration.

I'd go for both, using one first to establih my income then the other as my side passion and hobby. By the time you completed both you could choose to do either full time or both part time. The money is there, even if some of it is not clearly in front of you right now.

6-7 years ago, i was also making a choice between dentistry or something else. I didn't chose dentistry because it would cost a fortune here, unless we get a full scholarship.

Just my two cents, it would be good to consider, if your degree can get you a good paying job or not. Lots of degrees nowadays from the top university are useless!, when its comes to job hunting. Best way to find out is by messaging few alumni on those field in FB :D

Don't stress out and take our opinion as a face value, Afterall we are not the one who will face the consequences.

Being a dentist is the type of job that, even though it pays well, tend to have a cap on how much you can make, even if you are in the top of the field. Software engineering, on the other hand, doesn't have such a "cap".
I will give you a friendly reminder though: There is a lot more to choosing a career path then the expected wage. If both options pay well enough for you to live comfortably, going with whatever interests you more seems like to best long-run choice. Believe me, if you study something you don' find interesting you'll burn out real quick (I had to drop out of uni TWICE before I finally chose the right study).

I'd go with dentistry if I were you. Period. Its a sure fire job sector and you can learn programming ON YOUR OWN in the meantime. Some of the greatest programmers in history either never went to school for it or dropped out. So you can grow and learn in your spare time. But dentistry is a really great profession.

go to school for the free dentistry lessons and study software engineering on your own time at home. most people in that niche seem to be self taught.
