Career advice question

Lack of focus is a positive thing and hoping you reach success before you run out of cash. Thats a solid plan, you should run with it!

you view it as lack of focus, but a true internet marketer views it as analyzing data foresight (without losing sight of the bigger picture main objective/goal).

i've always viewed plumbing as a fall back plan, in case the economy collapses one day and nothing is profitable. I can always fall back on plumbing, because the economy always needs them. I have developed enough proficiency to be able secure a job in that field. I would of hoped I would been able to pay off my student loan debts by now, but tools are expensive and beginner apprentices don't get paid much.

But my main goal has always been to go into internet marketing. And making money online, basically.

at least I don't have 70k student loan debt like some other people i've seen. my student debt is around 25k right now i think. I'm afraid to look at it.

I am going to stop being sarcastic and try and help you.

It is not analyzing data that is your lack of focus, it is you are 37 and have 2 years of experience in plumbing, what did you do in the other 20+ years since you left school? Different jobs i guess? Now just as your starting to get any good at plumbing you want to quit.

That is lack of focus. You need incredible will power and focus to be self employed and successful, and that is only if you find you have an aptitude for it and from what you have been saying i do not think you have the aptitude for it.

The more you post on here the more apparent that is.

You also misunderstand how money is made online. You need to understand how and what to analyse for it to make sense and you dont understand that when it comes to internet marketing, so over analysing is pointless, you learn by doing and failing.

You will fail a lot and burn through a lot of money before you get comparitive success to your plumbing career in internet marketing.

And they do give anybody a clickbank account.

I think some famous person once said, something along the lines of, 'those who seek security over freedom, will not get either"

had I went for internet marketing last year, instead of doing another year of plumbing, I would of probably been able to pay off my student loan debt. because internet marketing community is somewhat tied to cryptocurrency community. I was too busy doing and *focused* on plumbing that I didnt see bitcoin coming. A simple 1000$ investment into bitcoin beginning of last year, would of been enough to pay off my student loan debt today.

I should maybe change my strategy, and try to work smarter, not harder.

There is nothing more i can say, your lack of knowledge is staggering, thats why i say you should stay away from internet marketing.

Investing in crypto currency is nothing to do with internet marketing. It is investing, infact more like gambling as you have no control over its price, but it is not marketing.

there is a cryptocurrency subforum here, that was started in 2015. Had I gone into internet marketing sooner, I would of been perusing this forum a lot and discovered bitcoin sooner. Or the probability of that, would of been much higher at least. your closed-mindedness is staggering.

regarding your assessment that it is gambling:

yes but, those who seek security over freedom will not have either. I think looking back at how things went for me the last 2-3 years, it proves this is true. had i sought the freedom of lifestyle career of internet marketing instead of the security of a plumbing career, I could maybe of had security and freedom today. instead of having neither because I sought security.

This forum talks about many ways to generate an income online. But they are not all the same, they require different skills and atributes.

You started by talking about becoming an internet marketer and now your talking about investing in crypto currency. Those are two very different ways of making or losing money and if you dont understand that you have no chance of becoming successful online.

Pick one of the ways try it out while in work and see if the price of success is accptable to you. If not focus on being better at what your doing now. That is not valuing security over freedom, that is called not being stupid.

I discovered the prospect of internet marketing, as a viable self employed career option, in about 2015. (but I heard about internet marketing one time in highschool from a friend which was in like 1997).

I need to have more of an open-mind and less "tunnel-vision goals". that's what got me in trouble in the first place. being focused on one path and not observing the bigger picture. It's better to keep an eye out for a little bit of everything lest you miss out on happenstance windows of opportunity that may arise.

So prove me wrong give up your plumbing career and become an internet marketer, you have seen a few youtube videos, so it will be easy for you.

I suggest you read malcolm gladwell book "outlier" more specifically what he wrote about the 10,000 hour rule, if you don't think I have what it takes to do internet marketing. lol

like i said, i already have an advantage over the general population when it comes to doing internet marketing. I've been around computers and the internet since I was a kid in the early 1990s. When internet meant you had to dial up on a modem onto BBS servers. Not many, in the general population, can say they had this kind of learning experience.

Okay, man. Judging by your responses it seems like you think that you have the right qualities to be internet marketer. So why did you make this thread at first? Just start. :)

If you spent 3 hours per day and have an aptitude for it then it should only take you about 9 years to become successful at internet marketing using that 10,000 hours philosophy, so what are you waiting for?

Being around computers since 1990's dial up modems doesnt mean you know how to run an online business.

I have been going to bars for a similar amount of time. I don't know how to run one.

I admit it's a difficult choice to make, but had I made this decision last year to get out of the 9 to 5 rat race drudgery, I may have been in a better position today. I guess the more pragmatic approach is to give it a try for 1 year. I can always apply to the plumber union next year if things don't work out in cryptocurrency, internet marketing or anything else related to passive income.

or i could just demand that the next plumbing company I work for to meet certain requirements so that I don't feel overworked and therefore can still make the career change into "e-commerce" (aka internet marketing) at around the same amount of time (as i would had if i was working an easy job like as a janitor) but still working in plumbing in the meantime as a fall back plan and initial source of income.
