Suggestion depends on
1. what kind of region you will be driving it (hot, severe, snow in winter, mountains, road conditions?)
2. why do you need the car (chill on sundays, drive around everyday, like to girls, driving alone or with friends, transporting stuff or not?)
3. what is your maintenance budget.. i guess a year-two old audi is ok in that, don't need to repair but regular service
Think it over why do you need the car in the first place to avoid selling it after some weeks

Since you said that you dont want no small sh*t, I'd go with either the BMW 7 (E66) or BMW M5 6-speed (e39).. Both in your budget, both have plenty of power (e39 is ridiculously fast), both got enough room for friends & large backseats to stretch out with a
lady friend

Go for a BMW M3 you will be pleased!! I have a m3 and I have also driven a S4 but still love my m3 over the S4 any day, but that is simply because I love BMWs The S4 is also a power house and force to reckon with though.

Well I'm from the states, 10k-20k quids converts to 15.6k - 31k, with a budget like that, both are viable options out here.

If i give it a bit of thought i think you are right.But in Europe ppl usually start running when they see a 5-6.000 cm3 petrol engine.
