Does anyone know how to setup one of these captcha services? Seem to be lucrative.

For example if you have a custom made OCR doing all the captchas received. What are the requirements?

Captcha services are based on people filling in the captchas, not OCR software. Some captcha companies might use software to solve a small proportion of captchas but most of them are done manually.

The coding side would be relatively simple (receive captcha, check billing, send captcha to one of your workers, send solution back to customer) and other than that you just need a room full of cheap computers with a good internet connection in a third world country and a bunch of lowly paid slaves to man them. Plus a burly supervisor with a whip to make sure the slaves don't slack off.

i think that unless you are out in the east, it would be nigh on impossible to compete with the manual method. OCR? XRumer has that one covered :)

As said above captcha service are done manually, in my country you can get workers for $1/hour

Well after saying this if anyone interested in jv (he do investment and I will manage the project for like 70:30 )

Well, It is possible in Pakistan, India, Phil and some other cheap rate country..Like in My country we hire data entry guys at 50$ per month 5 hours per day..and Per seat 4 workers..means 200$ per month for 24 hour/30 days..Captcha per person..and I have Plan to start a Big Captcha Solving Company with 10-20 Seats in 2012 Mid..Because Currently I am setting up SEO department and not looked at any JV for invest..just worked on my own and saved or arranged money all investment myself..But still Guys I will need suggestions ..What else people want cheap? So I may plan for that. ANyway, here people pay 1$ per 1000 Solved Captcha to people who currently running 2 Captcha Companies I know here..So I am also starting but in 2012..Any thought from you guys ? like what should I keep in mind to start it?

You guys cant be serious a fraction of the captcha companies out their use human labor, most of them use ocr servers.

There's no way that you can reliably get 90%+ accuracy on complicated captchas with automation. With automation you might only get a 30% success rate on a highly obfuscated captcha, but since there's no marginal cost for each attempt you can throw as many attempts as are required to crack a particular image. Some stuff like the more difficult recent versions of recaptcha just basically can't be cracked because they're barely readable by humans, let alone machines. No one would pay per attempt for something with 30% accuracy.

Your average rural Indian captcha cracker earns $2-4 US for a full day's work and that's considered good money for them.

I agree with that...sometimes captcha is very hard to be cracked and sometimes its nearly impossible even for humans..
even the best softwares cannot recognize such hard captchas. I've worked on that and I know how this thing work and how can be frustrating. as for recaptcha, I've successfully had more than %70 success rate... but I've decided not to include that in my software nor share the idea of cracking with someone else... simply because it will be tougher and tougher for people to read that crap. hiring people from 3rd world country is the best idea to accomplish this. with very cheap price and high accuracy..
