For the past month I haven't been able to post the same keyword twice in my tags (ex. Putting 'product product review product reviews' becomes 'product review reviews' when it's saved)

I figured it was a youtube update but my competitor posted a vid today and has the keyword multiple times in the tag!

Am I missing something here? Why can he do it but I can't? Seems like that's a pretty good advantage for ranking.

Any help would be appreciated.

If the others suggestions do not work, try using commas.

I'm pretty sure YouTube removes everything after the comma, so if you wrote "1, 2, 3 , 4" Youtube would only show "1". Could be wrong but from my past experiences this is what happened.

"First Keyword","Second Keyword","Third Keyword" <- No space between commas and quote marks. That's what I've always used, but there may be multiple ways to enter keywords.

Well that's the way I put in keywords and it works just fine. I put commas to separate the keywords, but when I save the video and then hit edit again, the commas have been change to quotes. So if I put 1, 2, 3, 4 and then save, then edit again, it will show "1" "2" "3" "4". I have never use the quotes to do it, but it should be the same.

Yes thats the basic reason of it.
