Can't login to YouTube?

I've been getting this eror with new accounts on first sign in: "Sorry, we could not log you in at this time. Please try again later. "
What's going on? Anyone else having this problem?
Error does not go away even after clearing up cache and trying on different pc and ip.
Existing youtube accounts log in fine, but new ones do not.

Aug 26 - Scheduled Maintenance

Heads-up, on Monday some YouTube channels may experience read-only mode from 6pm to 10pm Pacific.
Read-only mode will affect live events; ie, you will not be able to create, edit, start, or stop live events.
Already active live events will not be impacted.
