Can't hit #1... What's wrong?

What KW's do you try to rang for?Why don't you build a website-not a blog-I thing You will have more chances if You include you KW's in Your domain name....Good luck!!

his personal name...MD guy is above him with lesser bls...

joelgoldsteinmd.com is 5 years older than joelgoldstein.com

That's one thing I can think of...would have to look further to find more stuff but that's quickly what i came up with.

Keep working at it you should win over time if the old domain is not getting the same juice anymore

My guess in a link penalty (or rather a devaluation of most of your links), thin content, and bad on-page SEO. It looks like you built the site, blew the onpage seo, and just started running links to the site to rank it instead of going back over the fundamentals checking for mistakes.

You have 300,000 links to the domain. since your domain is 4 years or so old, this is an average of 200 backlinks each day from the first day on for 4 years. Websites don't typically do that, and your site ain't Pinterest.

You have a tremendous number of links from ufc-sports.com. Only 3 or so actually count. There are multiple occurrences of this many links from one domain in your linking matrix.

Your anchor text in almost all links is completely not related to your site, especially the higher value ones.

I only looked at the links MS would bring up, but if what I see is typical of your link diversity, you have been spamming links for a while, but you spammed the same domains over and over. Since search engines only count 3 or so links from each referring domain ( and those are on a diminishing scale) most of these were a waste of time and did harm to your linking matrix.

You have stuffed your description with 432 characters (it should be about 150 -160) and you managed to stuff your name in there 4 times. That is classic keyword stuffing and it costs you.

You did the same thing with the keywords, 400+ characters. and while Google doesn't use the keywords for ranking, some smaller SE's may still use them. If a SE does use them, they will penalize you for keyword stuffing.

You have 971 words on your home page, and this dilutes the keyword saturation to the point the home page appears to be about marketing generally, with "Google" "Social Media" "search" and "privacy" influences. Your on-page SEO is all over the place.

Your keyword density for Joel is 0.82, for "joelgoldstein", and "goldstein" it is 0.31.

The most common word on the page is "marketing" with 15 repeats, even then giving it only a density of 1.5 or so.

Joel Goldstein, as a two word phrase, occurs only 3 times, and it's density is 0.061.

If that is your indeed the keyword you are targeting, you missed.

In short, you spammed the hell out of your links, and Google has no idea what your site is about.

In addition, you have many pages within your site with 300 or so words on them, the content on these pages is thin, and your graphic takes up a lot of the real estate above the fold.

My suggestion is to build a static home page about you and your qualifications, keep it at around 400 words, and quit putting all the links to other pages on the home page, the anchor text still counts as content and it dilutes the message.

Move your current home page to the bloghome, and quit spamming links. Start doing individual searches with operators to find high quality places to link from that are related to your niche. Put out press releases when you have speaking engagements.

I noticed the other JG is a doc, and I also see a lot of medical links in your profile, and I suspect someone accidentally left the "MD" off the domain name when they left the sitename as anchor text while building his links. Damn shame too, these are some high value links. Unless you were also manually linking to medical sites.

Hope this helps...

For a nominal fee, I will be happy to build a properly optimized static home page for you.

Dont try for #1. Stop with #2. #1 will usually result in a penalty from what i have witnessed or your competitors eyes will be on you.
