Can't find the link pointing to competitor

Hi there,

Probably a pretty darn newbie question I have analized competitors backlinks because he had a PR7 and I wanted to know where the juice came from.

Turned out some of the pages Scrapebox spat out had PR 7 & PR 6 however when I visit those sites to look where the Backlink is placed I can't find find any to my competitor. I am looking at the source code.

So I guess a) link has been removed or b) no backlink existed but why would SB show me these links?

I guess the link has been removed physically, but still it is not removed from search engine index.

The weird thing is it happens to be on a variety of sites, all of them with PR6+...
