I am having a strange problem with a site. OSE, Alexa and other back link tools are reporting that this website in question has hundreds of back links from suspicious looking sites. The thing is that when I visit any of these websites I can't find any reference or links to the site in question.

How is this possible?

Did you checked their source page? The site may have hidden links to your site. When the site dont show your link, but still it has a backlink to your site, find hidden links, right click on the page -> view source.

Click ctrl + F. Enter your site url in the search bar, and check if you can find the link of yours, and report it and get removed.

Thanks neobboy but I did try that already.
Now the one thing is that I can't see what page the links are supposed to be coming from. All I have is the list of domains. So of course the link could be on some internal page that I can't see.
Usually Open Site Explorer is prity accurate and they usually have the exact page that the link is coming from but not in this case.

You should buy new backlinks...or wait for old links to be up.

search the url in quotes in google and find them in cached sources?

The links were probably on the site for a short period of time then dropped off. OSE etc don't show these kind of things straight away.
