canonical tags

I saw some websites using homepage canonical tag for every inner page including the homepage itself
will this actually benefit in terms of speedy results?

for example

your homepage is abc.com
your innerpage is abc.com/about-us

your canonical tag for homepage and about-us page is using the same canonical tag which is abc.com

because i see some sites they do that and they are ranking well, is this the factor?

As far as I'm concerned, canonical is most beneficial to tell engines what pages is the "primary" one to avoid issues like duplicate content and cannibalization, maybe redirects.

Never heard of it as part of speed optimization.

yup correctly summed up, it’s not a speed factor.

Oh what i meant was, getting fast results on 1st page.
