I've got a review directory site.

Can I rewrite and publish every review that I can source from similar niche directories online? Would it be a problem if they were used word for word and author names also copied?

    Thanks in advance everyone.

Duplicate content would be less than ideal for obvious reasons. Providing reference links to an authoritative site that it was quoted from might aid in that project though.

no, that stuff is copyrighted and you cant just copy it to your website. I am not sure if saying "this review is courtesy of yelp" would make it ok.

Copyright belongs to the original reviewer, although Yelp have the right to use it in any way they want.

Not sure if they add their own 'reviews' in a bit like data list brokers who add in false details to prevent people re-using lists.

A reviewer could certainly have a right of action against you for breach of copyright.

I would doubt it either. I'd suspect you'd need explicit authorization in advance, and it wouldn't benefit them, so that wouldn't happen.
