Not agreed. You can't take creating backlinks as black hat technique. It is a white hat technique if used wisely. A couple of high quality links from trusted websites helps in building trust and faith on your brand or business.Back-Links are one kind of black hat . You can rank by only white hat seo. Depends on your creativity.

Which one do you mean? None of my journeys have actually been challenging@hekke has a good journey where he had no links but only content. If I remember correctly it was quite challenging
