I am thinking about branching out into other niches and I wonder if it is possible to successfully rank a one-page squeeze or sales page for a quite competitive keyword?
You all know them - very loooooong single page full of success stories, 100% money back iron-clad guarantees, testimonials from happy clients and a big "Buy it Now" button? How do the search engines rank them?
I would imagine that unless the domain names has tens of thousands of backlinks with relevant anchors and proper onsite SEO, it would be very difficult to rank a new domain with just one (albeit very long) page on it for a competitive keyword... Any thoughts anyone?

Yes that is (could be) hard depending on the keyword(s) you are trying to rank for.
Sometimes (most of the times) it would be more effective to try and rank multiple web2.0 properties, videos, social media pages that review your product.
If you get lucky (work hard) you'll maybe even rank multiple of those pages.

Yes but you have to outperform the person you want to rank above. Links, age, on site seo with links being most important. You should really focus on long-tail if there isa lot of competition. Another option is share the wealth with G and by some adwords.

Of course you can, a squeeze page is like any other web pages.

Just make sure your website consist of more than only 1 pages. Your best bet would be to build a micro niche website around your squeeze page.

Simple answer : Yes

A sales/squeeze page is just like any other html page. You can cleverly use your main KW in the body of your page and all other stuff you know - h1, h2, h3, meta tag, title blah blah - and your on page SEO is done. Now for off page, I'm not a big fan of "blast the shit of your site" methods as they, sometimes, do more harm then good. I'd rather recommend building a few buffer sites (web 2.0s) and then build SB/Xrumer links to them.
And if you have tools like AMR, thats even better. Just use them wisely ;)

LOL I got a feeling I over-wrote the answer :p

Cheers,
Bk...

That must have been hard to do and keep from getting penalized for duplicate content.

The actual written copy on each page was 100% unique hand written, even the forms were slightly different - thats why it took him ages - like a week per sales page!!

I do this. Just use one long 1000 word seo optimized sale page and 30 article pages linked to from the footer. This ranks without any problems.
