I've been fiddling around with TOR and every now and then when using it, I'd like to be able to select which country I appear from. It seems that the system just randomly assigns you an IP on the network, and as far as I can tell, there is no way to control it. Are there any work-arounds that allow you to choose the exit node that you use when using TOR?

You can control it by using the Tor control protocol to select a specific exit node. I wrote a bit of a library for to doing exactly this in C# a while ago.
