We have a lot of locations pages and then we have one main page for my industry. Our main page is dedicated to our city with the most competition and highest reward for ranking at the top.
We have created 'silos' for our structure with locations pages and I recently realized we haven't really been taking advantage of that with internal linking. I have started actually using our blog posts that have been ranking really well despite no links to hit our main page with internal links for our most money keyword where I can find it and have been using exact match anchor text.
I'm wondering if I can overdo it here with internal linking anchor text and get some sort of penalty? I'd really like to take advantage of the rankings that google is giving some of my blog posts that while they don't really drive money making traffic (just people trying to find answers to questions they have about the industry and they come from a lot of areas outside of my service area vs ready to buy my service located within my service area), they do drive a lot of overall traffic.
