I tried Triond once, but had hardly any luck. I'm a fairly good writer with a firm education but I just need somewhere better. Is there anyplace better or is writing for money not as great as it sounds?

Open a BST. Most of the idiots out there (here included) outsource and outsource and outsource until the $4 article is being written by a 10 year old Chinese kid. Even worse, it's just scraped and poorly spun bullshit that would make someone looking at your sight think your an inbred downsy fucktard.

If you're good, don't bother offering the lowest price. Give proof that you can write on any subject well, that it isn't spun, and that it's unique and you'd make enough to live well off of the "higher ups" on the site that know what their doing, and need solid content quickly.

Yea, that's the problem. Too many rated writers are simply outsourcing their articles, selling low-quality content, but yet they're hogging the work. I've gotten sick of competing with trash and refuse to sell a high quality article for peanuts.

By the way what is a BST? Google search told me it's a Binary Search Tree, but I don't see how it relates. Can you explain please?

Regards.

I've been writing for quite a while now and I started out on Fiverr. To be honest, the rates are complete crap. I started with 500w per Gig (3.92$ (after PayPal fee) per 500w) which is dirt cheap. You have to stand out to be noticed and build an audience of regular customers.
The next step I took was to take the work outside of Fiverr. I contacted a couple of my regular customers and offered them work outside of Fiverr for slightly better rates (for me) and in return I'd crank up the quality big time.
Also, once your Gig reaches a certain popularity, people will automatically start contacting you and ask whether you'd like to work for them as a writer/translator. I've received offers at about 4$ / 100w (for translating).

To really get things going, I'd suggest you open a thread on the market place on BHW (maybe even other boards). If you're absolutely confident and convinced that your work is outstanding, then charge as much as you feel your work is worth. Give out a couple of free samples and work your ass off to make these people leave the best review possible.
Still, this isn't

Competition is pretty big on writing, since lots of people think they know how to do it. I bank around $xxxx a month from Freelance writting, but I had to work hard and work a lot to gradually make my rates climb!

You can make a living but I think you won't be rich.

I make a few hundred a month writing articles. My story is that I am a native English speaker/writer, and I hunt business down. I charge more than the typical person here but my work is excellent (in my opinion). If you work hard and are dedicated it is possible. This is far from the only thing I do to make money though and I am university educated.

I use writing as a side job but its not my main job. If you are in the freelance field, you have to be ready to compete with countries whose cost of living is way below the cost where you live, so they can write for dirt cheap prices and get work.

I'd say avoid those and keep your quality higher than that and go for the higher paying sites. Just dont get discouraged when you first start and you'll soon know if you wanna do it full time or just make it a side job to fund other projects you're working on.

You can make great money...for a college student. If you're good at writing and efficient about it you can make decent money from the comfort of your home. Build a list of regular customers and you're solid. Charge what your work is worth, not what others are charging.

Intelligence is expensive and hard to find intelligent people, they usually do not write for others, they write for themselves.

Can you send me a sample of your work?
