I'm trying to figure out my internal linking now and was wondering if you could for example, link from page a to page b and from page b to page a.

If so, is there any downside to this.

Also the upside I see is that you can pass authority. Are there any other upsides?

Yes, you can interlink if the content is contextually related. I don't think there is a downside unless it's useful for users, don't stuff keywords and keep it less.

downside is when you overdo it. real websites do not overdo this, because it does not make sense.
 
Of course, but these internal links need to be meaningful, not a bunch of exact match spammy anchor texts
 
Sure. You can link the two posts internally when those posts are related and relevant.
 
If you look at Matt Diggity, it's exactly the way he's saying works best. Never stop the flow, and link from the last article all the way to the top of the cluster.

Good, bad? Who knows.

I do it, and so far works ok.
 
Internal linking works pretty well. It always help to strengthen internal pages. Don't over do it. Make sure that the linking page is relevant to the source content.
 
as long as your internal link makes sense for the user you can do it. there is no over-do-it to worry about.
 
Almost everyone said the answers for your question. Not only internal linking all kind of link building must be natural and relevant to the content flow. It must not be forcefully inserted.
 
Of course you can! For example, many times on the internet you probably see some tutorials in multiple parts.

As long as both articles are topically relevant and related, Google shouldn't have anything against that.
