Can you get away with duplicated content AND rank?

Hi me and my friend has a little discussion, he says that he can create a blog on a domain name and just copy Quality articles from everywhere and put it on he's site AND rank without no problems, i say no! What do you guys think? Will he get in trouble? Or can you actually get away with it

you can get away with it, no problem, the only issue that could couse any problem is potential copyright violation, but that is only if the original content publisher discovers that there copyright has been violated, big G donn't care as long as noone claims copyright that is

ohh i didn't know that! But if he is sitting on the other site of the world from where he is copying the articles from, i guess nothing will harm him! lets say he's in Norway, and copying articles from companys in USA, AND uses WHOIS PROTECTION
 
Sure you could do that. You can also go and buy lots of hamburgers from mcdonalds and resell them from your own shop with your name on them, your own wrapper. Who you are and what you offer will become what you are known for. Are you only trying to rank or what do you have to offer? Are you a reseller or original producer? and why?
 
I suppose if you curate and cite the source, then yes, but not a 100% curated website. Just buy some cheap writing services.
 
He will see if he can beat me in adsense income with a brand new website only with copying articles, he thinks he can both rank and not get banned by google, i say no
 
If you haven't read Google's support page on duplicate content, then I suggest that you do.

Duplicate content on a site is not grounds for action on that site unless it appears that the intent of the duplicate content is to be deceptive and manipulate search engine results.

A site with duplicate content up may not get the chance to face manual action. Panda may get to the site first.

When I talk to SEOs about duplicate content, I often ask if they have first-hand experience. Eventually, I met someone who did. As an experiment, he built a site and republished posts from everywhere, verbatim, and gradually some of them began to rank. Then along came Panda and his rank dropped.

He may be ranking now, but Google will crack down on that. When I was a Google Quality Rater, we were trained to search for that stuff and report it.
 
It is really a big problem for the site in future days. Don't use duplicate contents copied from other sites. It will not help your site and waste of time by doing this. Just re-write a unique content and post then you can earn some money from this too dude.
 
Again, don`t listen the guys who haven`t used it. Yes, you can get away with it. You can rank and bank with it. It`s so easy to get away with DMCA notices but if someone is sending it to Google then the site is gone (but it the chances for this are very slim). If you know how to search you can see huge sites with pure duplicate content and using adsense (but you need keep your earnings lower maybe less than $1000 usd per month to bypass reviewers). Just build sites, use more adsense accounts. If one is getting banned in some reasons just create new one and you`re done.

exact match domains and semi copied content will get you ranking. but we can never tell for how long. a few algo change all those overnight success will be gone.

That may and has happened to all unique content and so called "white hat" sites too.
