For example, if I start a YT channel and only post shorts, can I apply for monetization once it's eligible?

Yea youtube create the shorts monetization system but you need to ble able to get at least 10 milion views ,for me its hard to get 100 views to each video i post

Yes, YouTube allows you monetize your Shorts content. However, in order to get monetized you need to meet certain eligibility criteria, which includes 10 million views and complying with YouTube's community guidelines and terms of service.

As others said it's now possible to apply to the YPP and monetize your videos only with shorts. However it's not as easy compared to normal videos. You need 1000 subscribers as well as 10M Shorts views in the last 90 days, compared to only 4000 watch hours for normal videos.
It's doable for sure, but in my opinion way harder than to get monetized through normal videos.

If you're only posting shorts on your channel, you can still meet the watch hour requirement by accumulating watch time through your short videos. Keep in mind that the monetization process can take time and there are other requirements you'll need to meet as well, such as complying with YouTube's community guidelines and terms of service.

Yes, now you can apply and get approved with shorts also. YouTube has also changed rules.

Yes you can monetize just with shorts alone, but as others stated go for the normal videos with 4000 hours instead of chasing the 10M views.

Problem is I have big ambitions and I feel like making videos that I want would be very very time consuming. I know it sounds lame, but I can't get myself to do like 20-30 videos in advance because I need to do script writing, video editing etc.

new youtube rules says you can also get monetized with shorts as well as videos

If you have the budget, you can fast track many of that just by outsourcing.

Yes you can apply, but the criteria is not 4000 hours watchtime but much more that that for shorts videos.

Not only the views are eligible for monetization. But also you should meet watch time. How much watch time do you have? Did this meet YT monetization requirements?

Yes you can apply for short monetizatio that they recently launched. Monetization criteria is 10M Views.

I don't understand why people keep repeating others.. The answer has not changed since the first people answered it lol.
