Can wordpress handle 1 Million Posts

OK everyone Newbie101 here. lol. SO I am looking at wordpress I know nothing. With say 20,000 articles how much would a person make a month? DOes it all depend on what is on it? Isnt something like clickbank set up with something like that? I am a realestate developer so I build subdivisions and condos. What I want to do is build a big subdivision here on the net that will pay me rent. Like if I could get a idea of say for every 1,000 pages you will make $1 on average and so on... I dont know is there to many things that go into play for a guess? I do email marketing so I am a numbers guy.

The problem is not if WP can handle 1 million post, the problem is if your server can handle it.
I have a autoblog farm of about 200 autoblogs with resource intensive plugins -- to handle this I have a dedicated server with 16GB EEC RAM and a fast quad core processor, i have 3 hard drives on it. One is the main hard drive where the apps are installed on, the other is dedicated to back ups and then the 3rd is dedicated to MYSQL.
The hard drive dedicated to MYSQL is a fast 150 gb 10 000rpm drive ( If i had money i wll get a faster solid state). Wordpress is a database driven software as such i believe being able to access the database file at max speed is crucial, hence th reason i have a dedicated fast hard drive for this.
Getting to the info fast is one problem solved, you also need a fast CPU to process all the info and then RAM is also super important, the more the better.
If you going to expect allot of traffic u will also need a fast dedicated line on your server, i have a dedicated 100MBit line .

it can even handle a billion posts, but you just need to keep on increasing the capacity of your server as the post count grows. mysql is a bitch when hosted on a low resources server. get a cloud if you don't want to be hopping around when your posts increase

One answer is TEST IT. Get something like csv file to wordpress submitter, put in lot of lines in the csv (random stuff) and have it imported into wordpress (turn off the ping of course). Once you get to a million posts, see how it performs.
My guess is that unlike forum software which is optimized for that kind of load, WP is not, but you don't know until you try, and it is not hard to test it that way.

My 7 Wordpress blogs (3 posts per minute) has around 20 000 posts and 2500 UIP
I do use some SEO plugins and VPSs are getting small for that. Needs something like 2x2.5Ghz CPU.
That cost around 60-70USD monthly, which is not that much. I will probably try to enable WP Super cache....

You may need this if it is a static site:

You definitely should go with dedicated hosting if you even think of getting close to that many posts. As suggested 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of Data will do it, but I don't think you will even need to get into a clustered environment (as sites like eBay are hosted) unless you have your visitors running various functions and operators individually (checking accounts, bidding on auctions, etc).
My shared hosting for my autoblogs is excellent but by next year I am definitely going with a dedicated server.

an normal dedicated server won't work for 500k post (wp base), cause of WP core issue, even u have 25gb ram or quad xeon proc on it .......
This my personal experience with wp, i can create 10 site with 300k post each in same server but i can't create 500k post in single wp installation ....
If u plan to create something big, WP is not ur choice ...

whichever way you go, you aint gonna be able to cheapskate your way to a million posts so you can get that idea out of your head right now. im on a dedicated server but im gonna need to upgrade soon because i think 1 million posts (videos in my case) is actually the way to go if youre really serious about making money in IM.
Ask your hosting company if they will provide professional services related to DB
if yes then ask them to optimize your DB
if you use Tags on ur posts then it would make it a hell lot heavier for the server so take care about that

Well agree with most , It will depend upon your hosting provider , I have a site recently used wordpress to publish about 50k pages ..site is slow and indexing all the pages on google at once is really hard.
I am using hostgator business plan , and sites not receiving a lot of traffic as about 2000 pages are only indexed , but google webmaster is showing me about 130k internal backlinks.
Keyword which i am trying to rank for is highly competitve and very commercial , probably most commercial keyword talked here on BHW , with out any backlinks building i am on page 6 and gaining rankings pretty fast.
No proper onsite seo is done for the home page.
I hope to see good traffic and $$ in next 3 -6 months.

Well it seems like a big amount...This is really a huge amount...What you should do is to post them step by step in order to be at a safer side and to be safe from any further issues...

same shit really - make sure your server can handle it and cache everything.
The biggest problem will be getting 1 million pages indexed, good luck with that.
