Hi guys, i saw quite a lot of "free" wordpress theme and plugin share by our BHW member at here, and most of the time they will attach virustotal scanned result, but i am quite curious does this scanned result could detect any fishy link hide in the theme or plugin?

And what exactly this virustotal can detect? what kind of bad things they able to detect? anybody know?

thank you. :)

I guess in 99% cases if a virustotal link attached, it should be safe to use, never use suspicious files shared by some "evil" members.

But we can't know the person is evil or not... anyway, i am just think is there any method to know any suspicious link or url hide in the theme or plugin?

use this plugin https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/tac/ it dosent necessary tells you a theme or plugin contains virus but it would detect pretty much most of the file code and its validity etc

Yes, virustotal is enough, for 99.99999999999999999 cases, so just relax and run files through it.

In rare cases can a hacked file pass here, members here are very sharp and in addition to virus total many members first check and then upload it to their sites, so you can use without fear.
