Can two websites rank on same keywords?

Hope this is in the right section. Hope your all doing well, I just wanted to ask a general question about SEO and website rankings and all.


Well, basically I am wondering if you can two websites from the same owner, same host etc can rank for the same keywords on the same search engine, say on google and yahoo?


If not what would be the ways around this? by playing fairly, any help is much appreciated guys.

Yes you can. The only time you may get into trouble is linking the sites together but even then if there is a logical reason to link them even that would be OK. I know this to be true because I've done it myself.

I would first work to get your keyword from one site to number one position and then decide whether it's worth getting the second site to rank at position two vs getting a different keyword to number one position.

Anyway, design each site totally different, use different themes, different content, different writing style,etc
