Can this help our rankings?

We currently are testing a theory. So far so good. We have a PHP e-commerce website that we are working on that the database is very deep with values. We have manipulated the database to include product specific information in all of that products fields.

We have chosen to use a spreadsheet with the fields (ex. product name, model number, attribute, etc) to be formulated into each products' description, short description, shipping info, etc. This way that shipping info, description, short description is related to that specific product.

Does anyone know if we are just adding work to our shoulders that would yield less than favorable results or is this something that could be beneficial for rankings? Or product specific search results?

Yes, it is a LOT of extra work but the more detail = more content and information about your product offering. This can work in your favor if someone searches natural search for a specific product, as it could list you for that unique product in the SE ranks.

Every detail helps. It won't build you super links but it could gain you some targeted microniche traffic that you didn't expect.

It is a ton of work and the formulas are relentless, but I have run a few tests on this and like you said, if the search term is for that specific product the results are better than the manufacturers ranking.

I wasn't sure if we were just spinning our wheels. I wish there was a much faster way of doing this because if I have thousands of products this could take up the rest of the time I have left on this planet.

There isn't. I have staff doing this same process all the time. It doesn't get any easier when the concept has so many different resources of content coming into one place.

Also, be sure and use your ' thanks ' button so that you don't get flammed off for posting too many ' junk ' thank you posts. That is frowned upon. Just a heads up.

I have noticed that Openoffice works much better with cleaning the code up and formulas versus the standard windows spreadsheets.

Ohhhh - model numbers - that's a winner.
People type in model numbers all the time.

Anyone that types in a model number is much more likely to be a buyer.
