k so honestly speaking i cannot afford the membership at rockettheme . com and gavickpro dot com

But i do love their themes. I found a lot of them on the torrents and now have them on my hard drive.

what im asking is that since i did not purchase these themes and if i use them on a new website of mine, is there any way i could get in trouble?

or do these themes have a back tracker that alert the parent sites of any new websites with their themes?

Even if the parent site were to be alerted of the use of their templates, how would they conclusively prove that you did not in fact purchase them? You don't give these sites your domain name when you purchase a membership to their site or buy a template.

then why do they write that once you buy you will only be able to install this theme on 5 domains ??

I think worst thing which could happen is that they will force you to buy license...

And for first question - yes, they can just ask you to show them your transaction ID so that they can see if and when you bought the theme. You can always tell them that you outsourced this work to a group of indian developers who placed this theme and claimed it as free and open source. So that you have an argument to defend yourself and ... bought the license to prevent further problems.

I can't speak about the other site, but RocketTheme is awesome, and well worth the price. The support forums there are worth the price of admission alone.

The limit in terms of how many domains you install, for RT, is purely on the honor system. From time to time, there have been security problems with the templates, and the ability to get updates in a timely fashion is really nice. They don't really have a way to find you for pirating, but with a little creative googling it is easy to get a list of people running stock RT templates.

I would be more worried that the theme you downloaded was compromised by whoever uploaded it. Wouldn't it suck to find out that your new site was actually fueling someone's stuffing empire?

if you like RocketTheme check out yootheme i think they have some excellent templates too. as far as your question goes, look at the source files and make sure there are no references to their site or any other site for that matter

if push comes to shove you can change your theme and act like it never happened... they'll go away.

yeah thx. im sure if i get caught ill get some warning. ill change my theme then. and say what theme? :)

Ya I would definitely not worry too much. I would think the worst thing they would do is send a notice to you telling you to cease their use.

Good luck.

ouch, just checked the rockettheme site and it seems they got defaced

Hmm - I just checked and they seem back to normal. Senseless defacing is just a way for skiddies to try to get their name out. Serious hackers hardly ever do that for no reason.
