can someone recommend a good microphone for podcasts?

Most people get all caught up in equipment and never actually start a recording.

When you have 50-100 listeners then worry about mics.

I use the Blue (brand) snowball and have been for years. It's cheap, portable,and omnidirectional. It's not the greatest but it is definitely way better than a phone recording imo. A lot of podcasters and YouTubers use it to start because it's easy with good quality.

I got a Blue yeti, Works great ina ll sorts of environments, online meetings, discord gaming session with friends, text to speech mic. Audio Quality is pretty good but the actual build of the device could be better, but for £90 with a game, you can't really go wrong.

It has 4 cardioid patterns and adjustable gain too.

On the flip side, I'm currently supervising a podcast ran by students. Using a 6 channel Behringer mixing desk, 6 Shure SM58's and just outputting that through the monitor jacks into an aux cable then plugged that into the line in of a computer, open audacity and hit record.

We will soon be getting an Allen and Heath SQ5 mixing desk for multitrack recording (will be used for more than just a podcast). But multitrack recording is kind of important because some people shout into mics up close and others whisper sat far away. Having the ability to turn down the volume of that person after the recording is very nice.

Blue snowball is excellent. If you spare a bit more the yeti is supposed to be even better.

But I'm saying the snowball for sure.
