can someone recommend a good microphone for podcasts?

Do you have a quiet room? Do you have an Audio Interface? I would definitely recommend the Blue Yeti USB as your first microphone as it is multi purpose. You can even do interviews with just one mic due to its bi directional settings.

Your options are to either get a USB mic like those mentioned above, or to get an audio interface and a decent mic (which will allow the best quality).

I have the Snowball and honestly, I don't recognize a difference between using the Snowball and the microphone built into my webcam. But, I think there are enough settings you can use to make almost any microphone good enough to start with. I recommend you go to Twitch and watch people streaming and ask what microphone they are using if they sound crisp and clear. They are all happy to share that information with you. If your room isn't perfectly quiet I guess you want a microphone that doesn't pick up sounds around the room only directly in front of it.

  • Blue Now Ball ICE (not regular Blue Now Ball, because It's quite the same but much cheaper)
  • Samson C01U pro
  • Blue Yeti
There's many good other quality microphone from Shure, Rode, But I doubt that you need that expensive microphones. Plus only experts can see the differences. The price range from $80 - $200 would fit your need well.

Condenser microphones are much prone to proximity effects. The close you are, the clearer the sound will be. And also, if your room are not acoustically treated, it will result in a very "roomy" audio recording.

Blue Yeti is a great choice for beginner. You won't need an upgrade for long time.

P.S. Check whether your room is quite for recording

You can go with Maono AU-A04. It's cheap and the cost is around $60

Seconding the Yeti train. It's not pro quality, but it's common, inexpensive, and good enough for a podcast. Check local pawn shops and thrift stores. Bring a lap top with you. Test any Yetis you find there and you can find a bargain. If your room isn't super quiet (ex: you live in a city) you can clean recordings with audacity. Audacity is free and very easy for beginners.

It may not be that cheap but Shure SM7B. That's the one I'm buying soon. If you're planning to make money, then it's not much a difference to invest in a high quality audio setup because you can easily make that money back in the first paycheck or two.
