If a page can't get indexed naturally by internal links, something is seriously wrong.

I would say restructure your site so that pagerank can flow to those inner pages.

If google does not see enough pagerank pointing to a page, they will quickly drop it into their suplementary index.

Pinging is just a short term method and does not even guarantee getting indexed.
