Can Someone Offer Some Advice?

Hey everyone.
I tried dropshipping with ebay a few years ago and just found it impossible to sell anything for a profit once you factor in posting costs. I wanted to try Amazon as well, but unfortuately, my account got banned.

I've done a few online ventures since then...mostly with Craigslist, but that has pretty much dried up. I've always felt that a dropshipping (in theory at least) has a lot of potential - and obviously it does considering BHW has a whole section dedicated to it.

I just need some guidance I suppose, or maybe a mentor (I'd be happy to pay a mentor a cut of my profits for period of time). Or maybe some other arrangement.

Anything that you can offer to help me get going on the right foot would be very much appreciated.

Are you looking for a good dropshipper or somebody to help you dropship?

I'm Looking to make money using a dropshipper (or working with someone that has an established set up). Certainly a good dropshipper is a great start, but I think I'd rather either work with someome (a JV or employer/employee type thing) or pay some one part of my profits for x months to mentor me to help me get started.

Honestly, I'm open to anything, but I need to start making money reasonably fast and have little room for "error" financially, so I need to get it right the first time.

Its hard to make money with dropshipping because you are only buying 1 unit at a time..To put it simple you are making money soley on the fact that you have the resources/information to purchase the product cheaper than the customer knows about.

Meaning if someone finds your supplier you instantly have a competiter who can sell for the same price, and in the case of eBay, some (genius) sellers are willing to sell just to make pennies.

First thing is to determine the profit marigin that you are 100% comfortable with, and dont move from it.With dropshipping you are at a big risk, if there is a problem, you are out of return shipping costs, and if the product is faulty, the entire cost, so you dont make any money and end up losing money, Which is why i dont recommend dropshipping high-end products.


If you are insistent on dropshipping your best bet is to find a laser-targeted niche, something that everyone wont think of, but still enough intrest to garner customers.Watch TV, Watch Infomercials, Check Google Trends, Google Zeitigeist(sp)

Bottom Line: You need to think far outside the box, or have a very good supplier if you want to make any money with droppshipping.Dont jsut wake up one day and say "Hey, I wanna dropship PS3s)".I talk to people daily wanting to dropship electronics.Why would I sell you 1 pc at a price below what I can sell it on eBay or craigslists for?

Thanks for the input. Honestly you are not telling my anything I didn't already know, but I thought maybe there might be something I hadn't thought of on the dropshipping front.

I'm just grasping at straws trying to find something that I know will produce a profit since my financial situation keeps getting worse by the day....I guess dorpshipping is not likely to be my answer...but I thought I'd throw it out there...

MFreid, you're an idiot. you just want info spoonfed to you.
first, if you want results, you have to leave this forum and go surf the web for dropshippers. once you find a good list, with decent terms, and have decieded on a specific thing to sell. then you go, find a cheap host, setup a free open-source cart on you server/domain. get the dropshippers catalouge and put it on your site. then, setup an affiliate program here, then wait for those programs, or google (check page optimizations on this forum) or anything for traffic. then comeback

AbdouRetro. I am not an idiot. I've been around this forum for quite a while and I see members jump down newbies throats all the time for asking for help. Grant it, when you are brand new you need to do your due dilligence to make sure your question has not been answered 300 times before and they expect to be "spoonfed" a money making technique.

I am not a newbie, nor are I asking to be "spoonfed" anything, but I'm in a desprite situation and am looking to minimize errors, while giving someone a chance to make a little profit off of me by either expanding their operation or getting a piece or my profits. The rest of your post is pretty much common sense, although I"ll be a newbie would read it and say "oh yeah, I need to find a good dropshipper.....etc"

Anyways, I'm not looking to agrue with you or get into a pissing contest, I have more important things to worry about. I guess I sometimes forget that black hat is black hat and not one trusts anyone else since everyone is "hustling"

Its really a shame, but that's life.

Dropshipping is good for the occasional piece here and there that you dont normally sell.

Easiest way to make money:

Pros:
BUY IN BULK. Why? You save in overall shipping costs.
Normally get a discount on top of your wholesale rate.

Cons:
Upfront cost to you.



A good drop shipper should include,
Bulk Discounts
Free Shipping on Bulk Orders
GREAT CUSTOMER SUPPORT
Fast shipping (god only knows how much it sucks to get a phone call with a "WHERE IS MY ORDER?" and you think "....Fuck if i know"..only to find out they havnt shipped it yet)

and fixes/replaces damaged goods.

You have probably seen me on Craigslist section more often , but I have started a drop-shipping clothing site with a real-life friend a few months ago.

There were alot of things we were concern about when we first started, supplies, packing, returns, money flow etc. you know, all kinds of things.

However, things seem to resolve themselves as we go along. So my advice to you is that you should start off small, maybe selling something with a 'focus' say "PS3 replica controller" (i am just using this as an example - dont challenge me on the profits or anything, ha).

Since you have limited product in your catalog, you will be able to narrow down the concerns and just focus selling as many as you can. Then when you become more successful and experience, you can start adding more and more products to your list. You will start gaining more trust from your dropshipper too.

Thats how we did it. Not sure if it is the best, but definitely worked for us.
We are happy with the profits so far.

Ok, so I've been looking around and it definately seems like nothing has changed with dropshippers since I tried selling on ebay several years ago. This brought me to the conclusion (which I pretty much already knew) that a good wholesaler is the way to go dispite the fact that you need to front the money for the products. So, It seems like from what I've found SO FAR, is pretty good...
Does anyone have experience with them or have opinions that can share?
Is there a better wholesaler that you know of?

As hard as it will be to come up with the money to buy, if they will sell on ebay or CL for a profit, it will be probably be worth it in the long run.

As an aside...I got screwed working for someone a few years ago on amazon and now my acct, and any account since I've tried to open is banned....I've tried different IP's, bank accounts, addresses...nothing works...
Anyone know if people sell amazon accounts that the bank info can be changed on to be my own? I might be interested in one.
