Hello everyone

I just purchased a domain from godaddy yesterday. It was not purchased through the godaddy auctions - I searched for a new domain and it was available and I bought it at the usual price.

However today I did a whois search and have seen that this domain is in fact 7 years old and has 1 drop. I thought that this was a completely new domain so now I am confused. I intend to use this domain for business purposes and slowly increasing my rank on google is very important - now I am worried that this domain could have previously been used for spammy reasons or may have negative seo penalties attached to it - is there anyway I can find this out?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. The domain name is betstallion

Thank you

Try out Web Archive - Way back machine to know what kind of content was hosted on your domain. Most of the domains will be parked for years and then go dropped. If it is the reason, it is good to go. If not, you need to think twice.

Thanks for your replies. I have looked at the way back machine and there is not a single screenshot for the domain other than today - which is when I set it up for myself

A lot of people are getting it wrong here, the number of years a site has or it's PR does not necessarily mean it's a hot cake. You need to really do a complete check and balances to find out it's worth it. If a domain is 20yrs and its PR1, it's not a big deal. If it has no significant backlink and it's PR5 then it's worthless. So many con artist out there denying the rookies of opportunity to do something good and they assume the Internet doesn't works.

I'm just wondering why godaddy sold you a used domain. If you think it's supposedly very new, ask godaddy. If you're happy with having an aged domain, then do your best in ranking it.

An aged domain is always considered better whether it has PR or not. You can rank that easily.

Thanks for all your replies. My main worry was the fact that it has '1 drop' - I am not sure how to interpret whether this is a bad thing as I have been warned away from buying domains with any drops.
