Can Someone Fill Me In Regarding Torrents?

Hey There,

I'm new here, although not new to IM. Feeling quite deficient though. ... I've been seeing references to torrents, and I have not a clue as to what they are all about. I've googled, I've found torrent lists, but I don't quite get what they are and how they work. Can anyone direct me to some info?
