Hi I experimented with a new website to see if I could rank top for a reletively low competition key phrase: "Southend School Uniforms"

I bought the domain
southend-school-uniforms.com
and built an ecommerce website
Code:
http://www.southend-school-uniforms.com
At first I was ranking number 1, as there really isnt much competition,
I added a Google map with a link to the URL, and I built lots of links using xrumer (services) and autopligg and links on wordpress blogs. I also used SLP to post deep links to specific product and category pages within the site etc...

It was all going well, then suddenly after a week or 2 the website vanished from the serps, I wasnt too worrired as it was a new website so I just kept posting links etc...

However well over a month later and the website is still missing from the serps! It isnt banned because doing a search for "southend-school-uniforms.com" shows 174'000 links/pages and mine is right at the top.

So as far as I understand this suggests that the domain isnt even penalised?
Or am I wrong, how can I be sure?

Doing a Google search for
site:southend-school-uniforms.com
shows that it has 295 pages from the website in the Serps.

If you do a search for
Southend School Uniforms
now, most of the 29k results, are pages that talk about my website or link to it or both, but my website is nowhere to be seen.

Can anyone explain what is going on. I would love to understand this better, but I feel I have reach a point in my experiment where I cant go any further using just my own knowledge...

Thanks in advance.

Just to further muddy the waters:
Google is showing 7'500 links to the website, (using
Code:
link:www.southend-school-uniforms.com
)
Yahoo is showing just 116
Backlink Watch is only showing 112

Could be sandboxed also:

New sites generally jump up for a bit then drop lower to slowly climb back up. This may have happened I would look at both your onsite/offsite SEO and make sure your page is really optimized for the keywords you are trying to rank for. In addition number of results is no indication of competition so actually analyze their sites and see what it really looks like.

Doing the same search on Yahoo which should REALLY be at number 1 for that domain,
brings it up on page 2 at number 16...

you probably got penalised for having over 7k links to a low competition keyword, where everyone else probably has a few hundred a most.
Should've done the links in moderation, looks really suspect to have that many backlinks

Thanks for the reply, to the best of my ability (very little) it is well optimised for both the main keyphrase "Southend School Uniforms" and also the names of each of the local schools listed as categories. with the word "uniforms" at the end:

Code:
Thorpe Greenways School Uniforms
  Ashingdon School Uniforms
  Belfairs School Uniforms
  Bournes Green School Uniforms
  Bournemouth Park School Uniform
  Chase High School Uniforms
  Earls Hall School Uniforms
  Friars School Uniforms
  Futures College Uniforms
  Hamstel School Uniforms
  Hinguar School Uniforms
  King Edmonds School Uniforms
  Milton Hall School Uniforms
  Porters Grange School Uniforms
  Prince Avenue School Uniforms
  Sacred Heart School Uniforms
  Southend High School Uniforms
  St Thomas More School Uniforms
  St Marys School Uniforms
  Temple Sutton School Uniforms
  Thorpedene School Uniforms

I dont actually sell school uniforms, im just using this to get a better understanding of SEO.

Ok so what can be done to remedy the situation now then?
I cant delete or remove the links, so is there anything else that I can do?

Also what is the best number to have to a new website?
(I actually probably posted hundreds of thousands to this website so far with xrumer and autopligg and SLP)

My mistake, Google is actually only showing 4 backlinks, I had a typo in my search string before.....

4 makes more sense compared with Yahoo etc, however it still doesnt explain why im lost in the serps for such a low competition keyphrase.

I am dominating the Google Images results for ALL my keywords, yet not anywhere to be found in the main serps.

Someone must know exactly what this means...?
Also how long can I expect to be sandboxed for, if I am indeed sandboxed, and does Yahoo have some sort of sandbox as I shouyld be top of that too, but im only in number 16 on Yahoo?

IF the sandbox doesnt exist how can you explain this...

Your problem is this:

<title>School Uniforms for Southend on sea - Thorpe Greenways School - Ashingdon School - Belfairs School - Bournes Green School - Bournemouth Park School Uniform - Chase High School - Earls Hall School - Friars School - Futures College School - Hamstel School - Hinguar School - King Edmonds School - Milton Hall School - Porters Grange School - Prince Avenue School - Sacred Heart School - Southend High School - St Thomas More School - St Marys School - Temple Sutton School - Thorpedene School - buy School Uniforms</title>

Fuck the sandbox, such an easy thing to say... I am not getting good rankings, my site MUST be in the sandbox, because I (or my noob seo company) did everything right... pisses me off every time to hear that crap.

It is really hard to draw a line defining what is "adequately" optimized.

I see your site at the very top, under the local business results.

I can see your website at the top.

Well, either way people are going to your site, right? :b

Actually I havent looked at the stats, the thing is, im not really interested in people going to the website, im just interested in learning how to get it to the top.

I dont sell school uniforms this is just an excercise to learn from.

Yes but the problem is that isnt in the SERPs though is it, the Google maps is a seperate thing. And it is also a little bit like adwords in that people often tend to ignore it and look down to where the actual results start.

So while it is good to get in in there, I need to get it at the top of the Serps too.

Ok, lets work through this a bit at a time:

First I realise that there are supposed to be a lot less words used in the Title, and that you need to put the words in order of importance.

However I read a few posts and seo blogs a while ago that said that it was a myth that you could only use "x" amount of words in the Title tag. It gave several examples of top ranking sites that had tons of keywords in the title.

So on a few different websites I tried it out and got away with it. This is an experiment in the extream, but how much is too much, and what is the process - Does Google give an increasing penalty the more words appear in the Title? It doesnt seem to quite be the whole answer somehow.

Ok next you pointed out the empty meta tags:
<META name="Keywords" content="">
<META name="Description" content="">
<META http-equiv="imagetoolbar" content="no">

As far as I understood Google doesnt use these meta tags so it should have no bearing on how a website ranks in Google, or is that not correct?

I will assume that the imagetoolbar tag is of no relevance, if im wrong please tell me why.

Ok next you mentioned the "SEO by..." link.
What was your point here? Are you saying that you shouldnt use the word "SEO" on the website, or was it rather a reference that I shouldnt have posted all those links?

and finally :
and some other structural issues.

Please could you expound on what they are...?

Thanks very much, anyone else agree or disagree with the points that have been made so far?

I check your site at yahoo and bing for your keyword and you are #1 in results.
Use specific keyword in title, description so google can understand that your site it's for Southend School Uniforms. Also don't over do it with keyword destiny.

You major mistake is that you are trying to learn with a site that you
don't care about.

Most people would be delighted with similar results.
